I don’t use my phone for internet so it works quite well on desktop. Makes it easier to find specific long gone threads that you can’t remember the name of. I don’t mind it and I thought i’d be the toughest one to crack.
I figured it out, my default is now latest again.
But why did I have to do it? Anyone who lands fresh on this forum will grandpa Simpson their way back out again anyway because we’re all a bunch of old weirdos, not because of UX decisions
But also we take the piss out of new weirdos. Funny ol world ain’t it?
Iirc it saves preferences per device. So you should only need to change your preferences to ‘latest’ once on mobile or whatever device you use most
New homepage layout doing my head in (on mobile)
- Don’t care
- Change it back
If you haven’t voted please do so by end of Sunday.
Will close poll then and act accordingly Monday.
Cheers
The people hath chosen.
Changing it back when I get a sec later today…
I was just getting used to it
I voted that it sucked on mobile… as it does.
But if we want this place to grow or at least be welcoming to new users, we might need to think about different ways of doing things, so I am stoked that @Mark and everyone at least gave it a try.
Another way of making the categories more accessible is looking at Discourse’s persistent sidebar. Example here on their support forum:
which auto hides behind a menu on mobile:
Probably some other things there that work well for new users too. Eg. the welcome header etc.
Quite like it! weirdly. But I’m on desktop.
Can we not just keep it the new version with pinned instructions for mobile?
I changed mine back for mobile so all good.
Desktop I use at work.
I’m with @nav I think we should encourage new users. Eventually we will all die and there will be no one left
Motivational Monday post there.
That’s the hope with Brexit and racism in general but that seems to have managed to recruit.
We may have a slight chance of survival. Might be a Rogue One level task though.
I think I fixed it but can’t quite remember what I changed. Took screenshots of what I did and then laptop rebooted and lost them all, so god knows.
aaaah I wondered what that tickbox would do.
Fixed!
Yer buddy! I don’t have work till Wednesday
Think I owe everyone an apology.
Thought I’d be making some decent interface change but forcing category view is clearly unpopular, so sorry about that, my bad.
I think (might be wrong) that the category view actually makes the forum look less busy than it actually is. As well as make old topics look more relevant/timely than they really are.
It’s not fixed (yet) but earlier instructions here will tell you how to fix it if you’d rather not wait.
Why an apology?
Just trying new bits out
Yeah but I could’ve figured out a way of doing it that doesn’t make it new/weird for regulars.
Might just do some simple posts notifying people how to change stuff that might work for them better, in future.
Slap on the wrist for my Change Management there guys!
