Decided I’m gonna buy an Xbox Series X in the next couple of months. Going for the X rather S for the backwards compatibility as I’ve got a few Xbox One games I haven’t played all that much of (because of an incessant controller issue) so I don’t want to re-buy them as digital downloads on an S when the X takes disks.

One thing I’m wondering though, how does the backwards compatibility work as far as DLC goes? Main consideration being, if I’m playing the Xbox One version of Cyberpunk 2077 on a Series X, will I be able to download the upcoming massive DLC for it which is a Series S/X/PS5 exclusive?

I think providing you’re still using the same account it knows what you’ve downloaded before

Yep, it’s a pretty solid ecosystem in that respect. Might be an issue if something has been taken off - Double Dragon for example - but mostly all fits in together seamlessly. My kids use it most now.

I got too cross recently playing Among Us when I did the right thing, some Michael Fabricant called me out as sus and I got booted out of the airlock. Cool story etc

I know some games haven’t been smart about this (e.g. games that force you to buy a “Xbox One Version” if you’re only on last gen, locking you into an inferior version of the game regardless of what console you are on), but Cyberpunk has been pretty good with this - there is only one base version of Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s compatible across Xboxes One, Series S and Series X. I started my game on a Xbox One, and continued on a Series X - didn’t notice any issues, and you obviously get all the enhancements from the newer consoles to boot.

Curious how they have dealt with the split between the last and current gen consoles for the expansion update - I assume the update will only show up if you’re system is a Series X|S or PS5?

I’ve been playing Sea Of Thieves. It’s really good. I mostly picked it back up so I could play this update when it drops next month:

FFIX finally done. Nearly a 100 hours somehow. Taken me a week to find time to watch the end credits.

Primed for the remake now though.

I never figured out how that card game worked back when I played that. Is it simple looking at it now?

Never touched it because it doesnt have any bearing on the gameplay (apart from one very specific bit).

They did that because I guess the card game in FFVIII was stupidly overpowered. You could get end game level stats in that game before you fight the first boss.

Now thats out the way I can finally use the Switch Hugo gave me months ago!

FF9 might be my favourite game ever. the story is so great. the characters. everything. takes a lot to beat 7 and 8 was fun but goddamn, Vivi man, Vivi

just thinking about it gives me the feels

Might take another look one day. Been on tears of the kingdom for a few months now with no boredom kicking in yet.

I got TOTK last week and I can’t put it down. I’ve done 3 of the temples so far

Shall I get this or BotW (which I’ve never played…)

I completed the original Monkey Island the recently (with guides obviously). Such a great game.

Definitely check this out. It’s very similar to the original Monkey Island games (although with a ton more accessibility features such as hint systems, etc). Found it very funny and true to what the series is about.

Get Breath of the Wild.

You can pick it up and put it down and it’s really really great.

Then get the new one obviously.

I’m on my second play through of BOTW. First time I tried to complete it quickly and now I’m just enjoying the huge map and taking it all in.

Currently on first playthrough of BOTW right now. So fuckin good. +1 to just picking it up whenever. I play for an hour after work and 30 mins before I start reading in bed.

What have you done so far? I think best thing to do is to unlock the map and explore the villages/stables.

Do any shrines you find along the way of course.

BOTW is the best game I ever played, made even better by playing it with my kids when they were growing up. They used to love watching me play it and went from hiding behind the sofa when I was fighting monsters, to playing it themselves and completing puzzles I struggled with! We got the game when we moved into our current house and I will always associate it with my kids growing up and the house we live in. It’s legitimately become a part of our family history haha.

Now the new one is out I’m taking my time with it. It’s such an amazing game to play I just dip into it and I know I’ll find something new every time. Can’t think of any other game that comes close in terms of enjoyment…maybe Mario Kart on the SNES.

Best thing to do is the Divine Beasts. Took me ages to realise that was even part of the story, but it’s awesome.

Yeah but once you’ve done those it’s easy to kill ganon and the game is over

I’d do wind one first to get Rivalis gale special ability
