Had to laugh at Danny Garcia calling his songs “songs”… ugh
One of my favourite Pavement tracks, and I’ve always felt it would work well in a part, but I felt the tempo of the song was lost on how slow the editing was. Gilbert used to be one of my favourites but now he’s fairly forgettable. His section was rad, don’t get me wrong, but it was far from his best. For me, there seems to have been an inverse correlation between my appreciation for his skating and the number of tattoos he has. When I see him with the big trousers too it just makes me think of northern soul.
Berle. Some tricks were ridiculous. The ollie over the rail into the tight bank was so gnarly. As were some of those 50-50s. As everyone else said, though, he’s just not very enjoyable to watch. He never really has been and what he does has always been done better by his contemporaries. Fairly limited trick bag and he just looks a bit too big and beefy for those costumes. I noticed how much easier it was to enjoy his skating when he wasn’t squeezed into his Steve Randle outfit.
I wouldn’t put it past Dill to have told him to do that just so he’s getting talked about, cementing such a pointless piece of footage into skate style lore.
Since skating is kind of saturated and literally anyone can do good tricks and post them on instagram for the world to see, do you now have to dress like Elvis to stand out?
Yeah, everyone needs to have their own thing otherwise they’re just another skater. Its getting to the point that now everyone is trying hard to stand out that no one stands out. The normal average skater will look interesting soon enough.
