Yeah that’s the best approach to get some joy out of it I think. I had a smart roadster for a bit. Apart from the awful, awful gearbox it was fucking brilliant fun. Could probably get out dragged by a 1.2 Corsa but it didn’t matter it was like driving a go kart.
I wish I’d bought an SUV instead of a sporty car. I’m forever scraping (or absolutely crunching) the underneath of mine every time I go over a speed bump or up a curb to park. Somehow managed to avoid any speeding tickets when I first got it, realised I’m better off just keeping it in eco mode and not driving aggressively with hard suspension. Pointless getting a fast car unless you take it on a track imo.
Plus I also get serious buyers remorse when I realise the car isn’t actually going to fill me with all the joy I’d anticipated at the dealership.
Next car will probably be a Volvo, and I’ll just keep it until it dies. Comfy ventilated seats, panoramic roof and lots of space.
I’ve scrapped every single car I’ve owned. Never spent more than 6k on one
I like my car, you can chill on it. But it’s a monster when needed.
He’s really Berra-ing himself lately
I used to really like cars as a kid and I actually enjoy driving now i’m a driver and I get that people like nice one because they can be beautiful or whatever but I struggle to not judge people by what they are driving. Everyone looks the same, wants the same thing, feels they need these things to feel validated.
Saying that, my first car is starting to show signs of that downward spiral so I do want to get something a little nicer.
Better to judge how rather than what, however I’m probably in the negative stereotype group for my two
My 34 year old W124 estate just passed its MOT today with only advisories for tyre wear . So stoked , was waiting for a substantial bushings and brake line repair list but it wasn’t to be.
So I got another year of its joyful driving . Fucking love it and will be absolutely gutted the day it goes to the scrapyard.
Have really been considering parting my cash for a good example as I know it would just last another 10 years with minimal maintenance compared to todays cars.
Bloody hell, just came out of Asda thinking I’m sure that’s not where I parked the van. I’d left the handbrake off and it’s flattened a tree. No damage apart from the tree, thankfully. Scarpered.
Thank god no one from just stop oil was shopping at the same time .
Probably just nipped to Asda to stock up on disposable vapes and batteries.
They’re all at Waitrose, or Booth’s as it’s known up here.
Did that once with automatic handbrake on my step dad’s car. Literally took it because it was the easiest one out the drive. Came out of budgens and his whip was in the middle of the car park. @anonymity peachcroft mouly one , thank fuck it didn’t hit anything.
Well where do I start haha,
Rear window in the back is rusting at the seal , usual thing with these . It’s pretty well gone and will need a whole restoration.
All the bushes -sub frame , front mounts are original and will need doing as they’re perishing but not MOT issues yet.
The brake lines will need replacing as they’re in the corroding stages but not leaking.
The hydraulic suspension lines will need replacement in the next couple of years as they’re beginning to corrode
The power steering system is leaking
There’s play in the steering rack but not an MOT concern
The fuel tank will need a repair or replacement as the filler neck into the tank has a rust pin hole which is currently plugged with petro epoxy
The heater matrix motor bearings are on their way out , i managed to get some oil in them so I can have the dial at 3 without it blowing a fuse . (Been like this for 5 year so far)
Needs 2 new wings , usual rust covered over with parcel tape.
Air con wasn’t working when I got it .
Currently trying to deal with an idle/stalling issue which now could be a vacuum leak (found today ) after I’ve replaced injectors, fuel filter , dizzy cap and arm , plugs , air filter , drained fuel tank to check the strainer , checked and cleaned the fuel pumps connections.
Needs a new timing chain
Potential new alternator -bearing is screeching on start up .
May need to sort out the ground connections as I’m getting corrosion on some of the fuses and it’s playing up with the dash lights , front beam and cigarette lighter .
That’s it’s so far , as I can see .
The garage I go to know these cars well , and they check surface corrosion and perishing knowing what stage they’re at . I’ve coated the lines, so the corrosion is minimal for now . Most people wouldn’t know to do this, hence why you see this on the cheap/non runner eBay motors and their MOT history.
Also I clean the underside of the car of all
Leaks and drips an hour before the MOT . Not that it’s much at all , if any , but with the much tighter rules on tests these days , you can be failed on excessive leakage.
And yeah defo there’s an old boy with a low mile garaged minter who will sell his thinking it’s only worth a couple of grand.
Will defo be looking out for that .
My 2005 Suzuki carry somehow passed its MOT today with 2 minor advisories even though the guy who tested it last year found 9 advisories and I didn’t fix any of them. I’m not questioning it, did 800 km in it yesterday and it didn’t miss a beat.
Had fun today driving. Next door neighbour at work is a car salesman and is moving to a new place so he asked if i’d help him move some cars for £50. So I drove a load of Audi TT’s of varying types. More fun than I imagined, especially on the country roads.

Each to their own
Love it!
