Cars

If I were you I’d look for a Merc with a convertible roof and a big V8. The most fun part of any sports car in speed-restricted Britain is the noise, and if you can take the roof off even better. Mercs also way cheaper and easier to service than Porsche, even AMGs.

Merc SL63 AMG or S63 AMG cabriolet will probably be about 50p in five years time.

fuck yeah V8s sound so sick

Audi R8 is a good shout too if you’re flash enough to pull it off. I literally could not pull out of my drive in something like that I would be internally cringeing so hard I’d crash.

I’m really not looking for anything that old.

R8 might be a bit flashy and really probably too expensive even in a few years.

Can’t help thinking that Porsches and big Merc barges would be a lot slower than your Tesla and therefore might possibly feel a bit disappointing once you get tired of listening to the exhaust pipe. Have you thought about something a bit smaller, lower and nerdier that’s more fun to drive at moderate speeds and feels faster even if it isn’t?

Sounds like you have a healthy budget so Exige V6 Roadster is where my money would go. If it MUST be a soft top. Get the regular Exige if not.

Or one of those nutty, lethal Caterhams that actually would take off even quicker than the Tesla.

And with the option of building it yourself. Something I’ve beard stroked a bit about for when my lad is a little older. Kits are getting really expensive for the quick ones (well they’re all quick, but the proper nutter ones )

Would love to build a kit car

Yeah absolutely open to any and all ideas.

I’m not really bothered about something insanely quick. Something that looks good and has some power and sounds nice is more what I’d say I might want.

Yeah that’s the absolute opposite of something I’d like to do, i really like stuff that works and rarely needs anything doing to it.

The Tesla is probably the most simple car out there. It tells me when it needs window fluid and the tyres need air, that’s about all it ever needs.

It doesn’t at all.

A small 2 seat sports car is about the only thing I think I know I’d like.

Looks to be almost exactly the same price as the Alfa 4C which I prefer the look of.

Maybe they’ll get cheaper.

Unfortunately Lotus are rock solid wrt depreciation. I’m a bit biased (owned an Elise years back) and went Lotus over the usual suspects. Of course the market has changed in the last decade :frowning:

Evora 400 is another. Emira soon. Both maybe a little understated for a weekender tbh.

I’m well jealous not having that awful decision and choice of looking at two seaters

Dipping in here to say I just did my speed awareness course. I am now soooo aware of my speed.

If you had one person on there who thought they were a comedian it would be unbearable.

As it was I had a bunch of people in virtual silence trying to get through it asap and one guy who could’ve hosted the course. Knew everything.

Whoa there speedy, slow that ‘so’ down…

Can anyone recommend a good dash cam?

I got a cheap one (under 50 quid) from amazon a few years ago, 1080p, wired it under the dash, works great. Went from reviews but be warned, amazon reviews are faked to fuck. As the dash cam people contacted me after I posted my review and offered to send me a free one (providing I gave the free dashcam a positive review)
