Yer man we have one of those like 6 months old and a very aged Deer hound.
Couple of plumber terriers, terrier, a pug, two sausages, one spaniel, one spaniel cross, one red lab cross, and sometimes a chihuahua. Think that’s everyone, there used to be a couple more!
At some point over the last day or two my dog ate rat poison and it all kicked in yesterday evening, fucking horrible but it looks like she’s going to pull through. Massive internal bleeding from the poison which had meant she had started loosing blood pressure at her extremities, couldnt walk, gums had gone fully white, in and out of consciousness. She got tanked up on antitoxin and coagulants and is getting a transfusion later today most likely and is now a bit more alert when we visited her and drinking water but that was a terrible night.
Been going over to visit her a couple of times a day and she was able to go for a little walk around the block this morning and did the worst shit known to man, basically toxic waste smelling and almost all blood but she just needed to get it all out, first shit in days. She’s much better though and apart from just being really tired is alert and started eating again so nobody is worried anymore, should be released tomorrow afternoon assuming blood work tomorrow is all ok.
Bonus stress of the night when we got to the vets was the vet telling us he didn’t think she was going to survive and my wife having her first ever panic attack and fainting.
Bit of a dog update for interested parties. She was getting better all week but still fresh blood in her poo, we were just told to keep an eye on it because it can be normal untill she full recovers but she went massively downhill yesterday morning so off to the emergency vet again, diagnosed as ruptured spleen so off to a different vet who could do a full body scan to confirm if she had a tumour and whether it had spread elsewhere. Nice stressful 2 hour wait for the results while the vet closed for 2 hours for lunch (ah France). No sign of metastatis so surgery after to remove the spleen, they found the source of the bleeding but couldnt tell what it was so we still don’t really know of it was an underlying issue that was brought to the front after the poisoning or if the poisoning had just overwhelmed the spleen. Rat poison is essentially blood thinner/anticoagulant so think it’s a possibility that it’s the reason. Wife is waiting outside for the vet to open to see if she survived the night but when the vet left last night he called us to say she was awake and stable and she was low risk so fingers crossed.
Sub total thus far for anyone keeping tabs - €3900.
Woke up this morning to one of our cats, Pete, with a massive swollen front paw. Looking forward to trying to get him bundled into his cat carrier to take to the vets. He fucking hates it and struggles like crazy if I don’t manage to get him in there before he knows what’s happening. One of our previous cats was the same but only when it came to getting his shots, if there was actually something wrong he’d crawl in there himself to get seen to. This fucking guy doesn’t seem to have made that connection yet though.
Mine hate that thing too, even if I bought a really comfy one in which I put a tee I wore before so it smells like me which should make them feel safer but it does not at all. Cats really don’t understand fashion, it has a sick graphic, the Statue of Liberty riding a motorbike in front of the flag of the US of A. 3 bucks in Walmart. They should appreciate things like this more. Bastards.
