This is pretty old but I stumbled across it earlier this year when I first got really into Mark Kermode.
Also, I’m definitely more into Blade Runner than Alien but this is worth a watch too.
Amazing. I do like owning the DVD of a skocumentary but this seemed not to exist beyond Bristol.
This is great. All the old footage is such amazing quality… That Cardiel stuff, holy shit that’s so good to see.
Yeah surprised and stoked it ended up on Thrasher. Spex was so good. It’s rad to see his kid ripping now too.
Really nice little doc on an interesting bit of skate history:

Pretty frothy, but well done especially considering it’s on the Olympics youtube channel!
That Jeremy Deller guy (don’t know what he does, always thought he was an artist) shows some A Level kids footage from acid house raves in the late 80s and gives them a load of historical context. Quite interesting if you like watching documentaries about the history and influence of house music.
Yeah, seen this a while back. It’s really good…
I loved the bit where the school kids all clicked and couldn’t believe how free the ravers were because there was no incriminating videos or pictures constantly taken for insta or social media. The ravers were truly free to party.
It is actually quite sad to know kids can’t have that escape and have fun without it being documented and posted every 2 minutes.
I was only going to check it out briefly but ended up watching the whole thing.
Strange and sad how much has changed about society within my own lifetime.
Not seen either, look rad. The only trouble with these things though is that none of them are true in what they say. None of them are the most important movement in music, you can say that of any random genre movement, if you’re in it then you’ll think that.
Still, they all have their place.
I remember watching a bunch of Epicl’y later’ds years ago and my ex commenting that it seems that in every episode, every person involved changed skateboarding forever.
So true, the self-importance.
And Atiba would’ve been there.
Skateboard Forrest Gump.
most interesting about this Deller docu was the 1986 footage of the black manchester sound systems playing house music - as far as i was aware i had never seen or heard anyuthing about that ever before - it was a clear year before oakenfold etc went to ibiza and bought that baleric sound back - was really nice to see that myth exposed as very whitewashed view of how house music started in UK.
whole lot of people in the scene upset about who was not included (eg JJ Frost, V Records ) but is quite telling that it only starts in 96 and doesnt even mention jungle or the early days, much more focused on the post 2000 influence of ‘outsiders’ like Pendulum and the transition to mainstream pop music, but i thought was still interesting. and it is clear that D&B has established itslef as one of the srongest genres of music. i thought DJ Hype comment was quite interesting about how the longetivity of the scene depends on having the underground infrastructure that keeps renewing itself from within so that when it goes mainstream and then dies off (as per fashion cycle) there is still the underground left behind to keep it moving forward - i thought this was quite similar to skating
if you have netflix i strongly recommend Hip Hop Evolution series - it is amazing, so in depth with all the legends interviewed over 4 series
Yeah I’ve seen it.
I was on a Zoom birthday party last night for Ben who is still part of Drumsound (Andy and Ben).
His Mrs over in Miami was on it too.
This documentary came up in conversation and she pointed me to a 3 part series about Jungle and DnB in the US.
It’s quite weird listening to people from outside the UK catching onto it and describing how they happened to learn about it.
The theme song they’ve used in the opening and closing credits is like some US patriotic piece that’s super cringey.
@Mush cool i will check that out - assume you heard about Bobby Digital passing? if you have not seen this documentary make sure you check it out. it is really good - he was easily one of the best producers in reggae and dancehall and a huge loss. i have so many of his records in my collection and one of the few labels where you can always buy with total confidence that it is going to be a great tune - so many anthems came from him
