Was just typing out a reply about the truefit decks and just seen that Francois has posted a link ha. The 8.5 has a 13.75 wheelbase. I might try that but I don’t know if that’d be too wide for you. It’s hard to find something under a 14 wheelbase, unless it’s like 7.5, 7.75 or 7.875 maybe. I’m 5 foot 3 and I think the shorter wheelbases can definitely help short people.
Currently rising 8" with 24" wb so that real deck @franc posted sounds really interesting (8.06 x 13.88)
Havenr messaged around with overall length much either but I’d imagine that’s somewhat linked to wb
As expected, hard to find those smaller wheelbase decks in UK skate shops with much variety. Deluxe don’t even have them
I ride different wheelbase every time, usually a different width too, and flip between shaped decks and popsicles.
Often resets my abilities on certain tricks and I end up questioning why I can’t do them any more.
My guess is that it actually does make a difference
Not sure what size board you skate but it seems to be a newer trend of having shorter wheelbases on wider boards. Kinda makes sense imo, board sizes generally got bigger over the last few years (well maybe decade in retrospect) and people enjoy the width but having to chuck 8.5 around gets a bit cumbersome so it’s nice to have the best of both worlds in a wider board that flips significantly easier.
I dabbled with the wide board short wheelbase thing but it’s kinda hard to consistently find them in the UK - dlx put out a bunch of 8.5s with 14wbs I think they were called shorties but I’m not sure if they made it over here, I know Pennswood decks often come with 14wb and Lovenskate use em. Bit hard to find but they’re out there for sure, good luck finding something wide and under 14wb though unless it’s shaped. As expected there’s a thread on slap titled wide board short wheelbase which does what it says on the tin.
Got out of the cycle of trying to find 8.5s with specific dimensions that would flip easier by doing a drastic size down to 8.1 instead lol
5’7” here and 14” often comes on a shorter length deck which can feel like a mini to me, so I’m 14.25” on a 32” long deck (8.125” here). I’m on Indys so they help pull the wheelbase in a little.
I’m sure that there will be plenty of reasons not to do this but for a good while now I’ve been taking a leaf out of Chico’s book and have been drilling my front truck holes back. Gives a bigger nose and shorter wheelbase.
My first trucks were veriflex and they were so bad they massively hindered any progression to grind or even turn properly.
I have 6 completes at the moment.
Might get all Slap and post a picture with details.
They all have a short wheelbase (14-14.25). According to that thing Spanky posted, I should skate boards with a 15 inch wheelbase. Whoever stated that doesn’t know that flip tricks exist.
I’ve seen Indy are reissuing the Stage 4. As someone who started skating when they were already at Stage 9, is there any reason or is it just nostalgia bait?
People like Geoff Rowley would seek out old stage 4s to skate. I think the geometry is different and similar to Aces. Maybe watch some Ben De Gros truck videos he talks about heights and goes into the finer details
The Mason Silva board I skated in the last couple of years was the best shape I’ve ever had. I think someone on here said it was an old Stranger shape? I’d love another one
iirc a lot of people started switching to Ace around the time Indy caught heat for the whole iron cross emblem on the trucks, along with qc issues from when Indy moved production to China. I guess Indy clocked on to Ace taking a pretty solid foothold of the truck market in the last few years and decided to reissue the Stage 4 based off that.
I had an inkling that was the reason, but I thought Aces were based on the Stage 3.
Lovely graphic
Been skating a bit today for transportation purposes. Realised 53mm wheels are crap for getting about on. Shame I figured that out on the way home from the skate shop.
