If Chico can’t nollie heel a 2X4 then it’s clear the sky is falling.
So I just ordered a set of the new Slappy Lights for no good reason other than I fancy having gold baseplates. I’ve already got Slappy Hollows in regular silver. But fuck it.
The inverted kingpins will be great for grind clearance but not so good for seeing by eye how tight your trucks are without flipping them over and looking underneath. But I like em loose so I’ll be leaving them at factory settings.
I tend to stand on my board to see how loose or tight my trucks are
I was waiting for that. And yes, you’re absolutely right.
But the first time I set up new trucks or change bushings I often check that they’re both adjusted identically by looking at the nut - generally I line it up with the top of the kingpin. Maybe it’s just me but I like to know.
Front always looser than the back
So here’s the thing - with an inverted kingpin you won’t be able to see if you’ve loosened it out of the nylon locking ring at the top of the nut, which maybe means it might be able to work loose when you’re riding. Or maybe I’m overthinking it.
Makes you pop higher apparently according to whatever mag I read that in 20 years ago which I’ve followed religiously ever since
When I bought my setup on hols it was really loose so had to go tighter than I thought but when I used it for the first time here it was sooo stiff. Climate had a massive effect.
Truck nerding!
My daughter has Venture Low V-Hollow and has minimal nylon of the nut on the kingpin so she can turn. Waiting the loose kits to reappear, which doesn’t seem to be happening…
I have Indy 139 ti and use the orange 90a replacements. Can’t handle the stock (88a iirc). For them you need balance haha. Anyhows a bit of thread showing on the rear and flush at the front, gives a bit more pop stability. Been like that for about 4 years and if I make any changes I hate it - I tried the blues (92a) recently, broke them in and wasnt feeling them.
I know what you’re saying. I rode tight trucks for years - Indys with Bones Hard busihings. When I started riding a smaller, tighter bowl I thought I’d give looser trucks a go. I got a set of Ace and hated them - they felt so wobbly and unstable. I went back to my old trucks, but a few months later I thought I’d give them another go. After about a fortnight I realised I was enjoying the extra control and it was making my balance much better. I’m a convert to loose trucks now. Standard bushings on Ace and Slappy are 86 for the big bushing and a bit harder for the top one
I messaged Bones about 2 sets of Hardcore Soft blowouts and apparently they are sending me replacements.
I want to say kingpin. Same with having your bolts really tight.
I have never even considered that people judge how tight their trucks are by looking at them.
It’s more about loose than tight. It was never an issue for me until I started riding loose trucks. If you want them as loose as they go, you take the nut to the end of the kingpin - but if you take them too far you can go beyond the nylon locking ring and the nut can come off when you’re riding. So for loose trucks, doing it by eye helps,
I do this as well. Softest rubbers I can get with kingpin nut flush with top of kingpin
Absolutely beautiful skate luggage. I have an old Nike SB board bag I’m looking to replace but I have zero cash atm
oooh, that’s nice. I have a couple of these bags for lugging skate stuff around. They work pretty well. All skate bags get pretty scruffy quick though.
