I clicked on the link and now have a z on my forehead
Yeah I met the owner a few years back, he made me my board, custom shape, he totally nailed it. Here’s how my board went
PLEASE!!! TELL ME YOU BOUGHT THE FUCKING GOLF SHOES!
I was sort of tempted to get one of those Kape decks, just out of curiosity - but for €200 that’s too much. I don’t know how much @Mark paid for the Napalm Custom deck but from the website they look like they’re around €120
I paid about 150EUR with delivery.
And that was for a completely custom spec board. Thinking about getting another one just for slappies!
I’ll do a ‘long term review’ as soon as my current deck gets to it’s 2 year birthday in February
Ive made my board last two years by only skating once every 6 months. At this rate ill get another couple of years out of this bad boy
After some advice guys
Have an egg setup for just skating curbs, that all I can really manage these days
But I’m wanting to maybe try some slightly higher curbs or ledges but really struggling to Ollie much higher than a curb
Would any tweaks to my setup help? Wondering if smaller wheels and no risers?
Heroin 9.5 symmetrical deck
9.5 slappy hollows
56mm nano cubics
Risers
Rails
Bronson G3
Or a change of deck to a heroin double shovel?
I like wider decks (heavier I know) but think the square tail is more like what I use to skate in the 80’s
Or is it just practice, practice, practice
I’ve never had a great ollie and only had a small window over the years to get onto bigger ledges so i’m struggling now too. I think it’s just a case of keep doing it and moving lots, stretching and jumping around as much as you can. The more active you are the more loose and light you feel. That is hard when you have no time and a sit on your arse job mind.
Cheers pretty much the same
Find a challenging curb, ollie up it (measure it if you want to) for an hour, until you can control it, land front wheels first, back wheels first, FS 180. Then find a slightly higher curb, rinse and repeat. That’s your best bet.
I always had a decent ollie but this is what I did with kickflips. It’s like with any training/sport.
You could change your setup but that’s going to be counter productive if you ask me. If you can just about ollie up it your local curb anyway you’re pretty much there, you always need to be at your limit.
If you’re the kind that needs to track your progress then measuring the curb (or something easy like comparing it to the size of your phone) will keep your enthusiasm up (pun intended)
9.5 is massive!
Slappys are good trucks.
But for street, I’d go somewhere around 8.25
I’ve only really skated 9.5-10 decks as I skated in the late 80’s but just got back into it
That setup is more just for curb skating but feel like I fancy trying slightly higher stuff as in big curbs and ledges
Love the symmetrical idea, just been looking at the Andy Anderson heron 2 egg.
That sounds pretty good to me, 8.7 so not to narrow or wide, symmetrical and flight deck so lighter
Here’s a suggestion- you have your big board so get a second board that’s a little more different. The Andy Anderson heron egg is good but sort of close to what you have. His newer model, the baby heron, is 8.4. Pair that with Slappy 8.5s and regular dragons or x series ( same formula as your current wheels but without the offset that pushes them out wider than your deck). That way you can switch between a late 89s influenced style and a modern option and get to know them both

What size wheels would you say?
54mm. I have 93a Dragons in that size and I love them
But I know how you feel. I’ve been skating through all the decades but in the late 80s/eay 90s I was so wedded to the old big boards that I resisted changing to the modern popsicle shape for years. But when I did I never looked back
Also don’t get the inverted kingpin version of Slappys - I’ve had 2 sets and the kingpin works loose. Doesn’t happen with regular hollows
