Gone with the Girl Modernica x Gonz
If I don’t like it can go on the wall and I will get the Heroin :facepunch:t2:

So here’s my final verdict on the GK Locker trucks. They’re weird. I had a couple of teething problems with them. But now I really like them. And they work.
First thing to get out of the way is the brand. GK used to be a serious skate brand once. They introduced the inverted kingpin. I had them on my Indys in the 90s. But they lost their way and they sold out, with shit stuff for 13-year-old boys, like Kreper trucks and hangers with lighter flints.
With the Locker they’re thinking about performance again, and making a serious attempt at innovation and problem-solving.
Now the teething problems. My trucks rattled around the pivot cups, and the turn was slower and less responsive than modern trucks like Ace and Lurpiv. Turned out the same problem caused both those things. My trucks are raw. Most Lockers are painted. The standard pivot cup is designed for the painted version. If you don’t have that thick layer of enamel around the pivot, there’s going be a gap. So if you tighten the trucks up to try to stop them rattling, they get less responsive.
I told GK. They sent me new, snug pivot cups. That means now I can ride them looser. I run mine as loose as they go without rattling when you pick the board up by the hanger and shake it. Now they turn like Ace. And the axle grooves actually work - you lock in better on grinds, 50-50s and axle stalls, just like on old worn-in trucks. But these do it straight out of the box.
So I’m keeping mine.

Getting the Girl 8.5 symmetrical Gonz deck
I have nano rat wheels that are like the nano cubics and cover the end of the truck axles
Would you get 8.5 wide trucks or 8.25?
Can’t decide which would be best

8.5 and get normal wheels.

The nano cubics are offset rather than centred. So if your wheels line up with the edge of your board with normal wheels, they’ll stick out at the sides with nano cubics of the same width.
I’d normally get 8.5” trucks for an 8.5” board. But if you do get nano cubics you could go down a size with the trucks.

I have the wide nano rats which are like the nano
Cubics
That’s why I was thinking of 8.25 trucks on my 8.5 deck

In the words of fuckwithyourtrucks on insta… just try things.

Been skating my hockey 8.5 deck really enjoying hockey but the pop is really odd on these decks sorta gotta press harder?? Idk

Girl Modernica vs Gonz all setup

Looks good - Just needs some Classics and you’re good to go :fire::smile:

Wouldn’t mind trying Slappy trucks but I only have two legs so just keep the one set up these days

After playing out on my old Gonz Reissue yesterday I was all enthused to get a new one, but the price (£130) of them put me off - it makes the Natas Kitten I had my eye on (£99) look a bargain.

As I slide further into trick retirement a larger board seems to work well so, as I enjoyed a large ‘retro’ Krooked board a few years back, I might compromise and get another… if I can find one.

There’s a 9.25” Gonz deck for £89 at Route one

Or there are signed ‘art’ Gonz decks for £150 at the Skateroom

Nah not via Route One. SOS and cheaper

Prefer nano rats, crusty car parks where I skate curbs and better for slappy grinds as they cover your axle nuts

Fair enough, they’re not going to make any difference to learning how to Ollie better :+1:

Cheers. This is the same as the one I had (still have #hoarder)… I quite fancy a Mermaid if I commit.

Yep. They wouldn’t be my first choice, SOS’s first.

Cheers Gents!

I drove past this place a few days ago. Didn’t realise Sheffield had two SOS, three I suppose if you include The House.

Abbeydale Road, right? Decent curb spot nearby too.

I’ve actually gone for a(nother) Heroin egg - a nice big ‘various stains’ one from Snakes.

Thanks for listening.
