I skated 7.875s for a really long time, until 5 or 6 years ago, then one day I stepped up to a 8.125 with wider trucks (switched from 139s to 144s) which I preferred straight away. Been skating wider shaped boards for 7 or 8 years now too, anything between 8.4 and 8.75, usually on 149s. Shaped boards are what’s up, they really feel like toys and bring the fun back as when you’re skating them you feel like you’re less… supposed to perform or have all your tricks as solid as you do on a popsicle. Plus skating them pushes you to experiment different tricks or different techniques for some tricks like 360 flips and the process is pretty interesting.
I had quite a few sets of Ricta slims in the early 00’s and remember the cores from around then but thought they vanished.
Came across them on the net this morning and they have tones of different wheels, was surprised as I can’t remember the last time I ever saw anyone skating them.
Both my friends who have got back into skating ride them, because that’s what they both rode back in 2004.
I’ve been tempted to buy a set of clouds, but I had 1 pair of Rictas back in the day and the cores fell out after like a month. Presumably there’re better made these days?
I’ve been watching this programme Sort Your Life Out, where they empty someone’s house into a huge warehouse and the people have to get rid of half of everything they own, only bringing back the things they actually like and use.
In every case their home is 100% better and they are happier. I’m starting to do that.
I’ve got too much old skate gear lying around that I haven’t used for years. That’s all going - some I’m selling on eBay and some I’m binning, and I’m only keeping the setup I ride.
Nah. Silver trucks. But from the people who also make them in orange. But I’m also holding back a set of Slappy trucks for if/when I get bored with the Grind Kings.
Needed a change in my setup yesterday, so put my old 9.1 egg deck back together with my new 8.5 Slappy inverted lights. It’s 8.75 over the trucks, so not too much mismatch in width, but feels good.
