Looks like Thunder have joined Ace, Slappy, Lurpiv etc in developing taller, more responsive, deep-turning trucks
General question to the ether: When you break in a truck what exactly is breaking in? Top bushing doesn’t do much, so is it the pivot cup or the bottom bushing? Both?
New trucks with semi old wheels and an old board? I don’t trust this guy.
Anyone know which, if any, cheaper trucks are any good? For beginner setups. Some people saying mini logo but I’ve never checked em out
Mini logo got very good rep IIRC. No one would admit riding them (apart from AA). But apparently really good.
Ventures are usually on sale as well
Mini logos are good, and Bullet trucks are great as long as you’re not too heavy. Kids do great on Bullets they come with super soft bushings and they’re easy to turn.
Usually recommend Krux as a cheaper option for adults.
Ive alway got on with the krux ive had. I would pay more for them not to be covered in horrible print.
I’ve just switched back from Grind King Locker trucks to Lurpiv.
I rode the Lockers for maybe 5 months and enjoyed them, but they always felt a bit like an engineer’s Proof of Concept model to test half a dozen different theories about how to make a skate truck. They have some great features, like the adjustable wheelbase and the sleeve on the inverted kingpin that stops it working loose. I even got to like the weird pre-worn hanger shape.
But they have a fairly ‘regular’ turn, and I like something looser.
Lockers are weird in a sort of ugly Kreper way. Lurpivs are also weird but more in a minimalist Swedish architect way. They don’t have all the innovations, but they have 2 features I really like:
- Lurpivs are a high truck (55mm) with a sharp, responsive turn, like Ace
- They have an anti wheelbite feature that means the squared-off pivot block makes contact with the baseplate before your wheel hits the deck - so even if you lean with all your weight you’ll just lift the outside wheel rather than the inside wheel jamming against the bard.
Here’s what the wheelbite feature looks like inaction:
I know lots of people who swear by Lurpiv trucks, I don’t know anyone who rides the Grind Kings.
Has there ever been a better time for functional trucks?
Ace, Slappy, Lurpiv, Indy stage 4/11s, Thunders, new Ventures?, those gimmicky grind kings etc
THIS is how you do truck innovation.
Tempted by these even though I can barely skate these days

Ace > GK
Ive got 2 decent pairs of thunders. Hopefully they will last ne until I’m done.
Shit! That’s a thought - being done.
I’ve skated all my life since I was about ten and I can’t imagine a time when I can’t do it anymore. Realistically I think it’s possible to keep skating into your eighties - there’s that Japanese guy who’s like 85 or something, and didn’t even start till he was 80. But at some point I’ll have to be done. It’s a sobering thought.
Digging my Slappy lights with the inverted kingpins at the moment.
Not sure if it’s the trucks or going back to a 8.5 truck after a long time on 9inch trucks.
Feel like those Aces will call to my gear madness like some kind of siren song.
I’m liking the look of those Aces too.
It’s a really good time for innovation right now.
I reckon my current Indys will last until I’m 50 providing I keep knocking my axles back when they slip. Then I have the warranty replacement for them. Which will maybe take me to 60. Not sure I’ll still be jumping over road barriers at 60.
I do fancy a change but the need to axle the current Indys I’m skating overrides everything else.
