A review of the new Ace inverted. His verdict is that the new inverted kingpin technology looks like it’s going to stop the kingpin from slipping, the turn is good but like all Aces you tend to get wheelbite.
Had an hour or so on this fella earlier. Crailtap really have their shit dialled. It’ll take some getting used to but the tail is so quick, nose light, board flips really well plus a decent snap sound (likely more in the forged plates). Will give it a couple of weeks then maybe order another. Did fluff a few things and it ain’t gonna turn me pro, but it feels good. And that’s the main thing right now.
Unfortunately not
couldn’t actually skate as my ankle’s still shagged
Just ordered a new pair of Vans AVE 2.0. Last time round they were £100. Now you can get them for £60
Finally worked out yesterday what I don’t like about Slappy trucks. Got a set a few months back and the bushings seemed really soft for my liking. Swapped them out with Khiro purple and back a couple of times, but each time when I tightened the kingpin it would just try to cut into the bushing. Checked against Indy’s and the top cap is shallower and smaller on the Slappy’s. Put on some Bones hard with the Indy top cap and it seems better, but I’ve been put off them now so I think it’s ebay time. Never got further than the carpet with them
Same thing with Ace and Lurpiv - they’re all made to be ridden loose for a sharp, responsive turn. But that’s not to everyone’s taste.
I’m very much Indy’s set reasonably tight enough, loose trucks wig me out but I’m just not getting on with the Slappy at all. I know I should give them a real chance and set them up with Bones bushings but I’m in a bit of an equipment obsession at the moment for some reason.
Just set this absolute unit up. Shredstick skates DIY deck from the netherlands (10.8 with a 15.5 wheelbase-crikey) some hand me down trucks and sabbath 60mm whatever bearings and bits i had lying around. Not gunna be my usual set up but looking forward to smashing about on it
After having it laying around for a month or more, I finally set up a new board.
It was a gold Frankie Villani egg board, just like the previous one was a Frankie Villani Dragonball Z board.
Loving the feeling of a 9.125 egg with 8.5 trucks, which in this case are the Slappy inverted lights. Found some old F4 spitfire lock ins that I had in a box. Seem to have already discoloured, but what’s new there. Actually they might have been in that box for about 7 years ![]()
Tony Hawk and Lizzie Armanto have just launched a helmet brand
All the Christmas references
