I was being tempted by one of those decks the other day. Am all about the 8.125 G026 at the minute.

Yeah great shape, tail maybe a tad short but I swear there are cheat codes built into the G026. Mine lasted 5 months and never went soggy which is, frankly, amazing.

Decided I’m gonna put new wheels and bearing on later, can’t be arsed waiting.

Think I’ve been staring out to sea a little too much and have come down with a case of “setup madness”

trucks are fine, Indy 169 with hardcore black bushings

Wheels, need something between 99a and soft spits 80hd so going to give Dragon 93s a go, things are a bit rough round here for 99s

Its deck size, happy with 9inch wide roughly, but can’t make peace with wheel base. Anti hero orange feels too long at 15, Heroin egg feels too slim at the nose and tail but comfy every other way. Thinking of trying Heathen 9 or Jacuzzi 9 popsicles to see if I can get the best of both worlds.

Does the madness end, started with a Death Zarosh and found something to moan about with that too

How old are you?

I had it a bit in my mid-30’s. Wasted a few quid on things like transition set ups that I never used and sold on. In the end sized up from 7.6 to 8.125 and settled there.

Eventually I thought fuck this shit and just kept everything familiar :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

50, but had a massive break (time, so far, not bones, but now i’ve mentioned it) - last deck was an Airbourne RHCP around 91, not my finest choice at the time so never went near football shapes or popsicles

I think everone has the madness at some point. I noticed it was more prevelant via MAS, when you’re older and have had a break and are trying to work out why you can’t do x/y/z anymore. Embrace and live with it, enjoy messing about with various bits and bobs. Size to what you enjoy skating IMO and you’ll find what you like quicker. I still like flipping my board and jumping about so small and light is my thing as I don’t think I could deal with the heft of an 8.5" with the larger trucks and increased weight, for example.

Skateboarding is the most important thing and its sometimes worth fighting through the pain rather than changing things all the time*

*all subjective to my opinion, we’re all a little different with different tolerance of things not working haha

You can, it takes a minute but you can. It doesn’t make that much difference when it comes to weight and truck width. You get used to it.

I was skating 7.875s then 8.125s for the longest time but I’ve been on 8.4/8.5 popsicles for 3 or 4 years now and really like them, especially the 8.5 DLX shape (which is the Magenta 8.4 shape). I can do 360 flips and stuff like that on those, not as easily as on 8.125s for example but the extra comfort I get when I’m skating ledges, manny pads, transition and stuff like that is really nice, and I don’t flip my board that much these days anyway.

Maybe try to keep a regular setup and have a second one that’s more experimental?

Wow, haven’t thought about one of those for a long time, thanks for the mind poke

I’d be inviting the madness back in!

I’d no doubt adapt for sure - I skated > 9” when I was young back in the olden days, 90-91 prior to the great width shrinkage, so managed down. Defo sticking to one, at least until these trucks are axled

I was a dumbass who saw “ooh band deck” and missed out on other nice stuff, wasn’t the greatest shape at the time

Have you tried softer bushings?

I rode Bones blacks for years when all I rode was vert, because they’re stable at speed. But they make your trucks stiff and unresponsive compared to how they ride with medium (yellow) or soft (blue). Definitely worth a try.

I’m loving my Girl 8.125 G026 right now.

I turn 50 in a few weeks l, for a present to myself have gone for one of the Scott Johnston Beamer reissues ( SJ innit) which is the G052 8.25 which is pretty similar but has a larger shovel nose. Doubt I will go any wider though. Hopefully it might improve my style.

Just checked the crail boards I have in the shop and none are a G026 :man_facepalming:

Thanks @KeithBeef

Of all the silly 30 minute projects I’ve done on my computer… this might be my favourite. Stoked to see it on rad forumer’s boards.

Really should print myself some.

My 11 year old step son is pretty athletic and relatively good at any/most sports he turns his attention to.

Which is a blessing and a curse for him. Blessing, because everything is fun when you start at a competent level. For something that’s a bit more difficult (eg. skating), it makes it seem even more unattainable.

He’s had a few periods of rolling around here and there for extended periods, but never really stuck with it. Last year he went through a period of skating one of my polarizers and enjoying carving around on it… but it didn’t stick.

Recently though he’s been pretty motivated and grabbed my 10 inch/Ace 77 equipped Dead Dave board from the pile in the garage and has been making the most of the summer holidays here and going to skateparks and learning some actual tricks finally… dropping in, bs slash grinds, rock fakies, tail stalls etc. I’ve been quite proud seeing it progress. It’s only a matter of time before he’s better than me and I can’t wait

There is a delicious irony in the fact that I’ve spent more than a few key strokes clowning dads in collector groups that setup massive reissues for their kids expecting them to learn on them… and here I am with my kid picking a massive board for themselves… out of pretty much every possible size class available to them.

(My theory is that it’s the dragon wheels on it that he’s liking the most.)
