I’m late 80’s, all graphic out all the time, first wheels had graphics on the running surface (for the first time out)
Cockroach?
I had a set of those and was horrified when it rubbed off (like what else was going to happen???)
what a muppet
Same here but I always used to run three in one out (always rear heel-side graphic out) but in the 00s I switched to all facing inwards because wheel graphics don’t ever look good and anyway in reality what does it matter and who gives a flying fuck
I wonder why white wheels look good and all other colours look bad?
Where did that come from? Got to be early 90s. I seem to remember Powell’s Propaganda didn’t have much by way of other coloured wheels. Mind you I might be wrong, I am sitting in a classroom atm and lots of people can see my screen so not about to start grinding through it.
Last time I had coloured wheels was maybe Toy era, maybe 98? Got some orange ones. I think. Never again.
That’s what I wanted but couldn’t get them, instead ended up with Universal Sonics, same idea but rocket sharks on the running surface. They didn’t stand up well to kerb grinding and attempted board slides, went cone shaped
Black and Red wheels in Propaganda for sure.
I had powell street bones in black and red and some powell clear red wheels in the early days. Even some lathed down green T bones but always white since. Just feels right.
1998 I had black wheels on gold trucks ![]()
I think I meant the other one. Celebraty tropical fish? Pat Brennan was in it with the piano music.
I know a few people in here have the Dragon Wheels,
any recommendations for hard/soft hybrid wheels?
Tempted to try the 93 Spitfire Reynolds.
@BAGHEADCREW you’re the man to ask about this!
I’ve been riding 93a dragons for a couple of years- I switched from F4 97a, which I also liked.
All I can say is I don’t notice any difference in speed from the Spitfires, but I do notice a better ride on rough streets - not cruiser soft, but it just takes the edge off of the roughness. On smooth indoor wood they slide when I want them to but they’re much less likely to slide out without warning.
One thing to note - they sound softer than regular hard wheels, which doesn’t bother me but some people might not like. Some also say they wear down fast but I’ve not seen that.
I fucking love them, the 97a Dragon wheels are incredible. Take a session or two to get used to them but I couldn’t see myself skating anything else now.
I knew the response would include “fucking”.
Nearly jumped for them when they came out. Just on the fence between brands.
Are these the same as the bones x97 formula?
I’ve not ridden the spitfire version but the reviews I’ve read say they’re great wheels but closer to a regular spitfire in feel, whereas dragons feel different. I can’t say how true that is.
And to further complicate matters there’s now Dragon 95a, which might be an interesting sweet spot between softer and harder.
Embarrassingly in 25 years of skating I have owned 1 pair of spitfires.
Imagine I’ll go for the spitfires. Expect it’s micro differences which regardless of brand will be miles from my STFs
All this talk about dragons has made me order a set of 56mm 95a. I usually ride 54mm 93a and I fancy a change.
Anyone who fancies trying dragons can have my used ones for nothing
I believe so. I skate the Nano Cubic dragon wheels just because I like the shape of them personally.
I hear they are even better when you get four of them.

Oh ffs that’s why the were so shit.
