Film Thread

I went back and watched 28 Weeks Later on a flight recently.
I only saw it the once, I believe. Maybe twice. It’s wasn’t bad - just wasn’t something you’d feel you need to watch again, whereas I watched 28 Days Later probably 20 times.

I can’t think of many films I’ve had the urge to watch 20 times in a long while.

Rogue One? Everything, Everywhere, All at Once? I think thats about it for the past 20 years.
Theres probably still a good load I’ve watched twice, though.

28 days later is one of those films.

There are not many films I could watch over and over.
Went through a phase of watching The Doors over and over.
Aliens, of course. Interstellar is a modern one.
Back to the futures, Star wars trilogy. Spririted Away.

I have a yearly This Is England film and TV series marathon during Christmas time every year, it’s become a ritual for myself and my better half.

Predator can always go on.

For me it’s no country for old men. Something about the slow atmosphere that they’ve managed to convey in that film is kind of soothing.

That or ghostbusters for the nostalgia hah

I think I must have watched Airplane at least twenty odd times when I was a kid, saw it again recently and it’s burned in my brain still. Since then Dr. Strangelove, Goodfellas, Aliens, Robocop, Die Hard, probably a few others, films that I can always happily sit through, standard dad fare mostly.

Oh, yeah - Alien, Aliens, Robocop, Predator, Dawn of the Dead, most 80s comedies, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Star Wars OT.
They all still go on when I need something in the background.

I was just talking about post-2000 films.
Shaun of the Dead, EEAAO, 28 Days Later, Matrix…they are the only ones which spring to mind.
But SOTD is probably the only one which gets a proper watch regularly (about ever 2 years).
I’ve not seen the Matrix in 20 years. EEAAO will end up in that category, too.

It’s probably an age thing, but I just don’t have that with new films no matter how good they are.

Mind you, I’ve seen Totoro about 200 times since my daughter was born.

Whats Eeaao?

Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Incredible film.

There have been a lot of great films post 2000… Arrival (2016), There Will Be Blood (2007), Mulholland Drive (2001), Get Out (2017), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Paddington 2 (2017), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)… to name a few that haven’t come up yet.

Edit: Not sure all of them are watch 20 times kinda films mind.

A lot of newer films are treading old ground which I think makes them less important. I thought Everything Everywhere etc was corny but it felt new and it looked different so it stands out.

I liked Arrival, and another good scifi move is Annihilation which I think is a bit under-rated. Could do with re-watching both of those actually.

Mean Girls is my most watched film - that’s not even a joke, I’m seen it about 20 plus times.

I watch Raiders every Christmas without fail.

Drive, Aliens, In Bruges, The Matrix, School of Rock - I think they must all get getting up there for me in terms of most watched films as well. During lockdown 1 I watched School of Rock 3 times in 1 week, it’s definitely my comfort film.

Old macdonald obviously
