Using ‘Still’ for this scene had me laughing.

I saw Backrooms on Saturday and thoroughly loved it. Saw Obsession with some friends last Tuesday, and didn’t fully enjoy it as I didn’t buy in on the story as a whole.

First half of Backrooms was amazing, so fresh and interesting, but the second half felt so derivative

Oh I absolutely loved Obsession!

Horror is my fav genre and I’m always cautious when horrors seem to be universally acclaimed as they sometimes don’t live up to the hype but I couldn’t have liked it more!

For me it was a really unique and creepy take on what is a really common story trope. I was tense for about 90% of the film!

The sound design on it was incredible, elevated it so much!

Watched ‘Brian and Charles’ last night which has been on the to watch list for a while its currently on 4OD if anyone is interested. Modern day frankenstein vibes set in Rural north wales. Quite silly but also quite sweet.

I really, really enjoyed that film.

I started watching the web series the other night and got about halfway in so far and I love it.
On a technical level, creating all these rooms/mazes / scenes in Blender, then with the post-production to subtley, and very effectively, make it look like it’s shot on VHS-C or miniDV is so well done. Also, the partly shaky camera work, low grade rendering and VHS artifacts hide and hint at the lifeforms in a really creepy way.

Sound design is absolutely on point and does a huge amount of work to create that absolutely horrible atmosphere - anybody who hasn’t watched it already needs to do so with decent speakers or headphones, not your phone.

For those who haven’t seen it, it’s largely found footage and the creator, Kane Pixels, has basically made a full world / universe / lore, including a load of shorter videos which are basically discarded workplace safety videos, really similar to the random bits in old Alien Workshop videos.

If nothing else, watch the first one

There’s a compiled version of all the episodes which I found a good way to watch it. Kane won’t get the views but I guess he’s doing alright now anyway

I only had the sound on low due to kid asleep upstairs, might rewatch on headphones for the sound

I’m thinking the movie can’t have the same impact but I’ll wait and see

Best viewed alone late at night
