Great film!

More Ben Wheatley coming…

I hope this is good. I often find Wheatley’s films come with so much anticipation because of his early stuff and then often don’t live up to it.

Free Fire (2016) was the last film of his I enjoyed but I know a lot of people found that disappointing

Yeah, true. High Rise was like that for me.

I also rewatched Kill List late last year and I guess that film only works once…

I do like the worlds in which these films exist, though. I think that the feeling throughout does a certain amount for me, even if ultimately the story falls flat.

Ben Wheatley is always on the cusp of greatness but has never quite got there so far

I’ll still watch everything he does though

He hasn’t done anything good.

Rebecca was v bad. I enjoyed aspects of A Field in England, and I’m looking forward to Kill List (no spoilers, please!).
I generally dig the UK modernist folk-horror angle so am always intrigued to see his stuff but yeah none so far have really hit the spot for me.

He’s great.
But I am unable to watch High Rise, it turns out that films set in the past but in a dystopian future like that (not sure what it’s called) really unnerve me.

For me Sightseers was pretty close to perfect. Kill List was too but as mentioned, doesn’t keep its intrigue once you’ve seen it once. AFIE was cool but too experimental. Free Fire was most straightforwardly entertaining film he’s done but maybe at it’s detriment

Hauntology?

Ooh yeah, just looked that up, seems about right.

The worst film I’ve ever tried to watch. Unwatchable dogshit.

Worse than love actually.

I liked the bit where he eats the mushrooms, and the bit with the tent.

On the topic of woods based horror films, has anyone seen either Calibre or The Ritual on Netflix? Both really great

Recommend don’t watch the trailer for Calibre as it gives the whole plot away, best to go in without knowing.

Haha yeah, it’s better than that thumbnail maybe suggests

Dog Soldiers is the best woods based horror.
