I’m not generally a fan of horror, but love this.
Not watched it in a few years but remember this being a decent watch:
Feel like I’ve seen that.
Jack O Connell grew into a pretty strong actor once he got out of those post-skins roles. ‘71 and Starred Up are worth a watch
Just watched this. That was deeply unpleasant. I don’t really know what to say about it, I didn’t like it at all, but it was brilliant! Been ages since a film got to my head like that. Amazing music and filming too.
Deeply unstoked about that cute little kid on the beach, that scene fucked me up a bit.
Thanks for the recommendation, now I need to find the book
Watched the Ritual, enjoyed it cheers. Pretty dark. Exact words from gf half way through “Who recommended this to you?” Someone on the skate forum “tell them to go fuck themselves”
Haha. Please pass on my apologies
Didn’t think it was all that good.
I like Rafe Spall though.
Godzilla vs. Kong was some good Saturday morning family fun. 7.5/10
Found Sound of Metal pretty disappointing, it’s basically It’s All Gone Pete Tong with a hipster aesthetic
Hipster? Such a dead word but not sure I’d call Sound of Metal ‘hipster’ at all, was very raw and down to earth. Very good film
Found the hipster.
I thought this was very good. It started out not being what I expected and then became even less what I expected. Worth a watch
Loved sound of metal, loved promising young woman.
I love everything.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Watched it last night and thought it was very good.
I’ve actually watched it twice now. Partly because I went into it thinking it was going to be a violent revenge type thriller and it ended up not ‘quite’ being that.
On a second watch a lot of the black comedy really becomes more obvious - like the bit where’s she’s staring at the workmen who heckled her. First time I watched it it was aggressive, second time, it was awkward and funny.
Oh, totally. It made them look super small.
The same with the scene where she takes out the lights on the pickup. The shot after from above just puts her in this position of power and makes the male seem so small and pathetic.
I really enjoyed it. The way it was shot was a bit weird at first in that it looked like the 40 Year Old Virgin type shoot, etc. but that would have been intentional as all those films are so male dominant so with this, it felt like I was a frog being slowly boiled. Totally at ease with it all - the funny bits, etc. - until you realise how fucked it all is.
I’m sure it was deliberate, but what really stood out to me alongside what you said was the casting choices for a lot of the male parts. It was like the director was deliberately bringing along the casting baggage of those actors in a way, and then subverting it. So like, Adam Brody - ‘nice’ nerdy guy in the OC, Christopher Mintz Plasse - dorky but somewhat frat bro in Superbad or Bad Neighbours etc
Yeah, 100%. I didn’t even think about that but it is spot on.
@Londonskater @BvS where did you watch it?
NowTv/Sky Cinema but I think it’s also available to rent
