I watched the Northman a couple of weeks ago, loved it.

When I watched the VVitch there was something about it that made it all the more special, and i found out after that Eggers tries to use natural light in his scenes. Add to that the use of the language of the time and it just seemed to give it an extra layer of authenticity

Either way, I’m a fan, but I really need to get a watch of The Lighthouse under my belt

I felt let down by the Northman. I think my expectations were too high given how much I’d loved his last 2 films, and the story didn’t really have the heft that the trailer made it out to have.

Not saying it was bad by a long shot, everything I like about his film making was there, it just felt like this was his big-budget film but it didn’t quite hit the mark, nor was it as intriguing as something like the Witch which had a fraction of the budget.

Will give it another go once it comes into streaming

The film looked great but I wasn’t that into the Northman storyline, until I found out it was based on a Greek Tragedy, that’s based on an even older Nordic Folk Story —> So the whole no-one getting out alive (apart from from his lover) suddenly made sense in that traditional context.

I’ve heard a lot of folk not fussed on the northman but I thought it was great.
Saw a YouTube about it and it’s insanely historically accurate, down to how the farmstead is set up and where the houses would be.

Watched that Adam sandler basketball film on Netflix. Was enjoyable, I really rate ‘serious-actor-Adam-sandler’.

Yeah that Adam Sandler film was pretty good, he was great in it just found the Spanish player he’s mentoring to be so dull and a terrible actor. Wasn’t really anything too him than ‘hot headed guy who loves his daughter’. Kinda held the film back a lot.

We went on a work social last night to Nando’s and then to watch the new Jurassic Park. I’m not into those films much, but went in with an open mind.

Fuck me that was utter shite.

I’d recommend the commentaries as well once you’ve finished 3

Then watch Gomorrah to see what the non romanticised mafia is actually like these days

Cheers! Just added Gomorrah to list too

Still haven’t shifted this Covid so just spent yesterday watching films.

I watched that Spiderhead film that’s new on Netflix. The set up and premise were really interesting, acting was good and I liked the set design. But the final act didn’t work for me, and while I generally think that all films these days are too long, this could have perhaps done with an extra 20 mins just to flesh somethings out.

3/5

Also rewatched In Bruges, which remains a 5 star, top 3 film for me.

‘It’s an inanimate fucking object’
‘You’re an inanimate fucking object!’

But yer classic gangster boss psychos are like that

This is a good un

I feel like In Bruges could include four extra hours of non-plot progressing banter between characters and it’d still be a fantastic film

The unbearable weight of massive talent. Do bother.

New Elvis film is good (from someone who is not a real fan), the beginning scenes are banging with the editing and music. Baz Luhrmann is good at over the top, visual overload.

@BDF ABP here :wink:

Should have listened @jwdharris16
