The Zone of Interest was one of the most incredible/ harrowing cinema experiences I’ve ever had. A must watch.

Sound is such a huge part of the whole experience which I think would be lost at home unless you have a professional setup

@hugo finally got around to watching Saltburn. one of the best thrillers i’ve seen in ages. Emerald Fennell and Barry Keoghan are absolute gems.

Late to the party but Saltburn was utter trash (the bad kind not the good kind), trying so hard to achieve so little and takes the audiences for morons

Contrasting views there! Still not seen it, thought the trailer looked good but then I’ve been in two minds since I read that it apparently talks about class but was made by some rich folk. Also reading about TikTok videos of people showing off their real life mansion houses by doing a dance from it isn’t enticing me to watch, unfair probably. I’m going to have to watch it and make my own mind up I suppose.

It’s not as much about class as it first appears, though maybe it should be. I enjoyed it as just a dark little tale but I had v low expectations

It was trying a bit too hard to shock (bathtub scene, grave scene) but was different enough from other films to be a welcome change if you don’t expect too much

I think this was intentional though?

I didn’t love it.

Might read a couple of reviews from either side of the critics to see what they say.

It’s a comedy right? At least I think it’s supposed to be. A dark comedy.

see i didn’t feel it was trying to shock more just trying to flesh out the dribbling insanity of the protagonist. he doesn’t love felix, he wants to eat felix, he wants to have sex with things felix has touched etc. he’s a massive weirdo creep

reviews-wise it seems to heavily divide opinion so i’m not surprised many didn’t like it here. to me if you make a film that is universally loved by all it’s probably going to have to be a bit vanilla and mainstream. try something different and it’ll probably be marmite

What was intentional?

It was a safe and mainstream attempt at ‘different’, anyone who thought it was different needs to watch more films

Whole thing was just soulless attempts at button pushing and the cinematography felt like it was done by an AI who was fed Instagram feeds.

Not to mention the ending being a rip off of Beau Travail

Especially when you consider how stinkingly posh the director is.

Taking the audience for morons

Don’t think so personally

That whole ‘aha!’ moment at the end was cringe worthy and felt sincere

I saw Detroit on tv last night, thought it was very good, albeit a tough watch. It’ll be on iplayer I think if anyone hasn’t seen it.

Do you think the director really was trying to reference Beau Travail at the end @Haven_Hamilton_Official? I didn’t make the connection but a total misjudgement if so, and pretty much the opposite pole in terms of emotional heft.

What’s the difference between a rip-off and an homage?

The intention, I guess. Whichever one it was (if at all) it failed.

I watched The Creator over the weekend. Outright amazingly realistic VFX on all the robot characters, enjoyable enough, couple of plot holes, but I found it enjoyable all the same. Randomly, I thought the story could easily fit into The Second Renassiance prequel from the Animatrix.
