Really annoying practice at the range this morning. I always start working my way up the irons and at first I could place it wherever I wanted, starting at the closest flag and then dropping it around 80m. Feeling good.
When I reach for the driver I’m fucking useless, either topping it or slicing it every other time. I don’t know how to fix it, maybe I should do a couple of lessons. Driver feels great when it works but when you’re not feeling it it’s worse than a bad skate. At least when you don’t have your skating legs on you can just cruise about.
Last ball though, thwack straight down the middle, nearly 150. Never hit 150 before.
Yeah, driver is a slightly different feel. Worth having a look at some YouTube videos on setup etc. just to make sure you’ve got that bit right. There’s so many different ways to get it wrong though that a lesson is the best answer really.
Yeah probably will do that. My only “training” was from the Rick Shields vids I binged when I first started playing. They’re great but I guess you need an observer to point out your bad habits.
Still haven’t played on a real course yet, maybe with a coach is the best time to commit to it.
I had a lesson a couple of days ago. Was good actually.
Basically I have a nice swing but my set up and posture is terrible. I already knew this but didn’t know exactly how it was bad.
He got me doing this drill where you put the club across your shoulders and you dip your left shoulder under your chin and rotate your body through until your body naturally lifts your back foot into that golfy finishing pose.
Then when you have the club in your hands you recreate that drill rather than trying to twat it. Boom - straighter (consistently) almost straight away.
Driver was virtually the same as your irons then, just the ball position in a different place. Hit one over 275 with a range ball which i was super stoked on.
Yeah, it’s all about the lead side extension and side bend. I’ve had to work on or get taught pretty much every aspect, I’m an overthinker, it’s frustrating and rewarding at the same time. I had a lesson the other week though and it’s starting to look like a proper golf swing that an actual normal person might do, it all feels so effortless when you get it right.
My posture is always gonna be dogshit because I can’t straighten my left arm. Have to compensate which means I can’t lean back so much on driver. Maybe I could if I stood a bit closer but it feels weird.
At least it’s the front arm, if it was the other one I probably wouldn’t be able to play at all.
I also move my arse too much but I can’t figure out how not to. I’m a twerker.
On a bad day I can easily power-fade it right across the next fairway and onto the one after that. Then either just play three off the tee or if I can face it sort of half jog up to it under the gaze of people who managed to hit their ball in a straight line. Hurriedly hit another fucking shit shot out of pure shame and then shuffle off back through the treeline, mercifully out of sight.
Used to anyway, I’m enjoying it way more and playing much better now after learning to give fewer fucks. Nearly everyone is shite and nobody really cares about anyone else’s game except their own.
