Gone Skateboarding?

Had a quick blast at a half dry Bournbrook

Have only been skating once a month for the last 6 or so months so not feeling great on the board atm (Soggy board/stiff body).

Got to the skate park at half 9 yesterday and had a ten minute warm up doing a few easy bits then set up the camera/water bottle and did this first try. Felt like the dogs bollocks then failed to land anything else at all for the next hour and a half. Haha started good at least

Who knew opening a skate shop would encourage me to actually try and skate more! I’ve squeezed in the odd short session here and there the past few weeks. New Year’s resolution is to try and get out more, I’m hoping with the youngest starting nursery in January I’ll be able to skate before or after work.

Couple of hours tonight and will likely be out tomorrow. Gonna really focus on tailslides for a while (he says…) as it is frustrating not having them at the moment. I did hold one for a couple of feet the other night but the ledge was icy as the Wolves boys were in town and they love a long slide.

Had to focus the nose on my board to force me to set up a new one - G026 Girl again so straight back on it with no excuses. It was cracked both ends anyway, so wouldn’t have been much use to anyone else.

Going for a skate tomorrow for the first time in well over a year. Am scared.

Yes! Just take it easy.

Out twice this week, Wolves lads up too. Got a back heel on the flatbank tonight so happy with that, time to get the kickflip then dial in consistency for both. Still a head scratcher how consistent the lads are though. Kickflip Back tails on the top of the picnic bench… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Bloody loved that, forgot how much I enjoyed it. Felt so bad for the first half hour thinking wtf am I doing then started to get my legs back and managed to blast about the park a bit on some familiar lines.

Got to work and finally put the back board on the long rail behind me. It’s bank to bank. Thanks to the aforementioned two above for giving me the ‘you got this!’ vibes. Almost gave up as I’d started running out of steam. Had to work for it - a lot harder than it looks…

Nice, that’s a long one.

Yep, the last couple of feet are the hardest as you’re running out of momentum at the same time as prepping to turn off the end. Happy to tick that one off anyhow, eluded me for about 6 months :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hour at The House. Creaky af. Always feels a bit higher stakes to me when it’s freezing cold for some reason. Anyway, good to be back on it.

Mini hangover yesterday, arrived at the park, this kid was practicing crooked grinds so I did a lot of them with him. His enthusiasm is really contagious. He’s like 12 or something and such a skate rat. Always at the park, always learning something. Stoked on being inspired by a guy who’s like 30 years younger than me, if not more. Good for the soul.

Had full intention of skating at the weekend with Keith Beef. Found out some white Sal’s, relaced them and everything. Car couldn’t get off the street. Our steep road never gets gritted so we were stuck all weekend when everyone else is over the snow already.

A couple of people at the bowl had surf skates. I had a go. I honestly don’t know how they stay on those things. I was wobbling all over the place. I kept trying to kickturn when you’re meant to carve. After about 10 minutes I managed to pump around the bottom of the bowl but without getting any higher. The surfskaters had similar problems trying to ride my board. All good fun!

Quick one tonight. Rail done again, under 10 I think. Better than what felt like 45 mins on Saturday. It was filmed without me knowing. I think I’m getting a bit of a bald spot. Maybe time to wear a cap more than I do already.

I ALWAYS wear a hat skating now. Hate my bald spot.

I remember when I first noticed it I was on a bus and glanced at the screen where it shows the CCTV feed from the onboard cameras. There was some guy with his head practically glowing at that angle. Yup that was me. Really helped that I had dyed my hair black just ro really accentuate it.

I’m with you on that.

I sometimes video sessions, and I looked at the latest and saw a bloke with thinning hair and a belly, not skating very well.

I’ve basically let myself go these past couple of years.

There’s not much I can do about the hair, unless I had a fortune to spend on transplants, like James Nesbitt. So I had it cut shorter. Bizarrely it makes it look thicker. As for the belly, I started yesterday on Michael Mosley’s (RIP) Fast 800 diet. The aim is to lose my belly, and 10% of my bodyweight, within 8-12 weeks. Which they say is completely achievable, if you stick to the plan.

I went to the doctor and told him what I was doing. He was massively helpful and enthusiastic. He gave me cholesterol tests and blood pressure tests and booked me in for a second round in 8 weeks time, to monitor any changes. I also took pictures of myself with my shrt off to compare the difference, if any.

As for the skating, I just need to practice more. You get more scared as you get older - or at least I do. Plan is for a minimum of two full-on sessions a week, every week, with no exceptions and no excuses, and a list of lost tricks I want to get back.

I have no idea how it will all turn out, but you have to try.

as soon as it thins, go bald all over. No point trying to save it, it’s a losing battle it just looks worse trying to hide. It is what it is, embrace it.
