Gone Skateboarding?

Once in 2023. 20-28 was at least 4/5 times a week minimum.

34 now.

Yeah to be fair I had years where I let it slide. I actually gave up altogether in my mid-late 20s because I was just doing a lot of clubbing and a lot of drugs. Got back into it around 2003 when I was 28 and would aim for once a week which I maintained pretty much ever since.

I still think the actual skateboarding is the most fun bit…better than watching it, talking about it, etc…

Teens - 2-3 times every week, whenever I could, depending on lifts to the spot and weather.

20’s and 30’s - dropped right off to maybe once a month at times and lost interest at various times in actually doing it but weirdly not in thinking, reading and watching it. Always did that. Probably because I could never find anyone to physically skate with but could always come on a forum and chat about it.

40’s - interest levels right up in terms of going skating but my body and spare time are both making it very hard.

One of my biggest regrets now is not skating more in earlier years, but then if you take off the rose tinted glasses I also remember sessions in my teens where I couldn’t land anything, slammed a lot and had a shit afternoon of it, to be honest.

Everyday if I can. My body feels fucked if I dont do exercise of any kind. On holiday at the moment and the first few days I felt every minute of (roughly) forty years old.

I reckon I average about seven hours a week of some kind of skating

Wow that’s good going @jimo.

4-5 times a week up to my mid 20’s.
Since turning 30 it’s usually every other week,

I’m 41 and skate twice a week, more if the weather and my schedule allow it. I usually skate for an hour or two, hardly ever more. Sometimes I’ll go for a quick 15 minute skate, it’s better than nothing and good for the soul.

I feel like I “understand” skating better nowadays. There’s things I can physically no longer do but the way I approach new tricks feels more profound than it was 10 or 20 years ago (sorry if that makes me sound like a dick). I still learn new tricks all the time, I want to keep things exciting. Sometimes it’ll be some weird curb dancing move, sometimes if I’m lucky it’ll be a legit trick I’ve been thinking of for decades.

Gonna keep skating as much as I can and as long as I can. I can’t see why that would change as long as I’m physically able to do it. One day I’ll be too old to do tricks but I’m pretty sure I’ll keep cruising around. I don’t really remember life before skating and it’s been the biggest thing in the universe for me for over 3 decades now. Life without it would be weird really! I go mad if I can’t skate. I just have to.

Once or twice a week, sometimes have 10 days or 2 weeks off though. I always enjoy it when I do skate though. I just don’t skate solo as much nowadays, the social side of it is a huge part for me. If I skate solo I tend to get frustrated trying tricks.

I think I get what you mean. I don’t have the resilience to keep trying things way beyond my skill level so I’m more conscious of what I’m capable of.

About twice a year

Had about 5 hours over the weekend - Friday and Sunday night and could have skated Monday as I felt good but my ‘spot’ was open. In hindsight I should have driven to a park but you know, I want to grind a curb at the moment :man_shrugging:.

5 hours a week is pretty average out of injury and winter - it’d be a lot less if my daughter didn’t - with my lad and his behaviour it can be difficult to manage without two parents so I always feel guilty leaving my wife alone if I can’t drag my daughter out :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’ve got the urge to come down for a day with Lizzy and skate Spit. Map has it as 2.5 hours and there’s a hotel up the road. Skate, burger, beers, sleep, fuck off home. Sounds great :+1:

I’d like to say I try for once a week but haven’t done that for a bit now.

Got a go a fortnight ago though. Which was nice.

Yeah it looks rad!

13-18 all the time, every day if I could
18-22 much less as drinking and uni took over
23-26 got back into it a lot more, maybe 3 days a week.
26-30 twice a month, caveat of usually skipping Oct-Mar entirely.

Since 30 it’s been pretty sparse. I’m 35 now and haven’t stood on a board since March 2020. Life, relationships, work and a chronic health issue have just got in the way, plus add on being older, not having any mates who skate etc.

I think about skating every day, have never lost interest in it, it’s just that too much stuff got in the way of actually doing it.

Despite buying a new setup last month I still haven’t been out on it haha. Editing this before I commit to something I regret, but I am aiming to go to the park tomorrow!

Now I’m 45, try to get out at least once a week. Sometimes twice if I’m lucky. But only for maybe a couple hours. Sometimes I go in the day so it doesn’t put pressure on wife.

Then again, sometimes I got 2-3 weeks without a push. Just depends as and when. Less so in winter as it’s harsh-as here. And this summer I’ll be away for couple months so probably not skating at all. We’ll see.

Wrong side of 45 now and rapidly approaching the big 5-0 :frowning:

Skated a couple of times a week with my youngest during Covid, but probably only managed twice since the restrictions lifted

Really want to get out more - think it’s time to embrace the carpark nearby and the few manny pads that are there

I would heartily recommend car parks and the art of not giving a fuck as a great way to keep the stoke going in later years! The joy of finding and making a curb grindable and celebrating with a slappy or two is something worth experiencing for yourself.

Also, waxing a curb is a bit like putting bird seed in your garden. You might be surprised what it attracts!
