Forum trip to wherever the fuck that is?
Do you travel? Need that on my drive please
I went skating and did some tricks! Dragged my daughter out for protection from the scoot gang.
Set my camera up right at the end of the night and gave myself 5 mins to get some flatland basics in. Really surprised that after a couple of months off I didn’t feel too out of wack. Legs stiff as fuck though.
That’s fucking sick
What’s this new wasty saying? Is it just over the new bridge?
Looks good!
Nah it’s on Pallion side to the left of the new bridge, I think the closest parking might be the retail park up behind it (so you can imagine the struggle getting bags of concrete down lol) but it’s not too bad to get to, basically five minutes from Pallion metro.
Just trying to start off small atm since imo the kids in Sunderland are way more feral than the ones surrounding Newcastles wastey and nobody wants to drop a few hundred quid on a quarter to have it fucked up, pretty much the only expense so far has been adhesives, clearcoat and manpower. Obviously if things stay and don’t get fucked with then we’ll put actual money into it.
The coloured block I posted a day or two ago was originally just two blocks long, we dug another 4 curbs out of the ground and shifted them up there. The granite block was basically Spyros project doing multiple runs back to the other side of the bridge to get the blocks it’s sitting on, then 3 trips with 4/5 people to move the granite.
Dug out for a polejam yesterday too, filled with postcrete but misjudged how far it’d go so I’ll need to head back and get some concrete on top.
But yeah its coming on well for the time we’ve been there, still a lot of tedious stuff to do mostly just sweeping up and some floor patchwork around the ledges, bench etc. I think next project will probably be a manual pad, very blessed that the spot basically has infinite amounts of bricks to make forms/fill them with, so it should be pretty cheap and easy to do that. Someone’s gonna drop a rail off at some point so I’ll get that drilled into the floor, think we’re gonna hit the granite with a rub brick and some epoxy to get it properly going too. Overall I’m just hyped to have a place to skate that’s out of the way and doesn’t require 2 hours worth of metro travelling. There’s also a pretty hectic bank spot on the same plot of land, think I posted it either in here or personal footage or if you follow dchum/unknownparasites he’s posted a few clips of it too.
But yeah if anyone’s local to the NE or just visiting the area etc hit me up and I’ll send location/best way to get in.
You been to the Bronson Canyon / Dagger Ditch spot by the Hollywood sign?
Skates for 4 hours today. Gonna feel that in the morning.
Sick park.
I have yes, its way bigger in person than it looks. That’s the kind of spot i’d like to go to though. Semi-well known
I don’t understand, for what? Like adhesive? Or just to fill? Or stabilise?
Adhesive/stabilise, honestly I was insanely skeptical about it given the common practice for basic DIY blocks has always been blocks/no more nails etc (or concrete ofc) but the foam has dried absolutely rock solid and had held up with me bashing into it full bore for slappies etc. Guy who suggested it’s been skating probably longer than I’ve been alive and apparently using foam is a big thing for diy spots/repairs in Prague? Can’t confirm or deny that but it’s holding solid.
Good to know, thanks!
Back out again today. 34 year old me needs a helluva lot more rest time between skates than 20 year old me did.
Got 5050s both ways on ledges, both boardslides on the flat bar, front smith… no tailslides though. Frustrating because that’s always the trick I dream about and I was visualising it all the way there.
man last time i skated with you (or the time before that i have no clue) you were getting into them and i swear you’d said you had barely been skating much around that time. you got it Snurp
Got a couple bits done down at the DIY in the last couple days - finished up the polejam, got a generic rail drilled into the floor and started forming the wall of a qp and frame for a manny pad.
Another bonus of the spot also having the council dumping shit nearby is that we found atleast 10 of those BT manhole/access covers just in a heap of dirt and other dumped stuff:
Concrete top and metal underneath, probably gonna do the metal side up top as it’ll be smooth as fuck for manual stuff, and should also slide pretty well meaning I can try and learn noseblunts on it. Shame the weather is absolutely horrendous for the next week or so.
Laid side by side 10 of those would make an amazing looking bank. Good to see the council just dumping their shit on wasteland haha.
Oh for sure, loads could be done with them - only issue is those fuckers are pretty heavy and they’re situated at the top of a bank so getting even four of them down took a while.
There’s another section on the same land about half a mile down where they’ve dumped all their leftovers from when they did the new bridge/paths/roads etc full of slabs, blocks etc, just a shit ton of work to actually get them up to the spot. Fully worth it though, so much shit kicking around that the only expense ends up being concrete and manpower.
Nice little session down the local park, nothing really happening tbh, but glad I went. Made a pretty awful backside 180 up the Wembley gap but I’m gonna take it.
Then my calf did a crazy crampy spasm landing a stunt at the end of the night and I fell on the floor. Gonna get some Wahl vibrator action in whilst cooking my tea and drinking beer and wine.
Note to self - leave the forum alone in about 30 minutes
