100% this. She is a victim. People with the “she went against our country so she’s not British” attitude are cunts. She is British. She is a citizen of our country. She deserves a trial and her day in court as a Brit. Fuck the home secretary

Sorry I need to follow this up, again. How can she not have a trial? It’s fucked.

It shows how the world is changing. Of the two non-combatants stripped of British citizenship, one, Jack Letts, was a young white man. The cabinet minister enforcing the policy is a BAME woman of Gujarati/Ugandan descent. That’s quite post-racial and, in a funny sort of way, a sign of progress. We’re no longer defined by our race.

No one should be stripped of their citizenship. There’s murderers in prison who did much worse but still retain their rights as Britons

Says the guy who said he’d rather “reserve judgement” on asylum seekers in the brexit thread.

The only progress I see here is that some old gammon agrees with something a member of the BAME community has said. In a fucked up way it’s actually kind of endearing that you’re so excited about it.

Doesn’t matter that it’s a horrible idea, against any rule of law, from a person completely bereft of any sort of empathy.

I think the way this has gone just shows how much media narrative controls things in the 21st Century. There’s no way this would’ve happened the same way 30 years ago. Maybe even 15 years ago things would’ve been different. Seems to me the straw that broke the camel’s back in this country was Murdoch essentially handing Blair the Prime Ministership on a platter. Since then it’s been a slippery slope, and eventually has led to this, where a narrative that this evil ISIS bride is a terrorist who we shouldn’t allow into our country at any costs, despite the fact that she was born here, raised here and was radicalised/groomed here. And the press (the press that actually matters in terms of moulding public opinion) will shower this decision with praise for it being a sign of strength, when in reality it’s a shirking of responsibility that is as egregious a single act of human rights violation I believe this country has committed as a political entity in many years.

Asylum and race are two different things. My view in race is that if you see yourself as one of us, that’s what you are. Doesn’t matter if, like Mo Farah, you came here as an asylum seeker. I was asked about whether I see all asylum seekers as ‘us’ from day one. I said I’d reserve judgment - it takes time to tell whether someone is going to want to be a Brit or bide their time until they leave again. Taking citizenship is probably a good marker

Don’t they get their day in court regardless? What if the the papers invented some evidence that you were a jihadi bride and you lost your passport with no argument?

As I say, I don’t have a very strong view either way but given her age I’d probably agree with you here

What’s Patel said, I can’t be fucked to read all of this shit to find it. Quick look through once again Warwick find your points weird, vague and hard to make out how you feel about this. I’m not attacking you, just find you cryptic.

  1. I don’t agree with what she did.

  2. She was 15. Fucking 15, you cannot make decisions like she did without influence. Let’s be fucking real about that.

  3. She’s British, as any criminal would be extradited, she deserves a court date here. I know you love Passports and sovereignty so surely you should be fighting her corner.

It’s pretty fucking black and white. If she’d joined a terrorist organisation at 40. I’d maybe understand it fuck knows. Just lock her up here if you want. There’s way worse scum bags than her that the tax payer pays for, let’s be honest about that.

Innit, if she wasn’t old enough to be trusted to vote or offer sexual consent, I don’t believe she was old enough to rationally make the decision of that magnitude. Quite enlightening though what Warwick said earlier that the age of criminal responsibility is apparently 10 (haven’t looked it up myself right now, will do though). That’s quite a stark difference in the eyes of the law that I reckon needs addressing.

That’s because for once I can’t decide what I think. If she were a few years older I’d say ‘fuck her,’ but she was a kid at the time. I have no problem with stripping citizenship from adults who join ISIS. I have no problem with targeted drone strikes on them, to tell the truth, But on balance, because of her age, I maybe think she deserves a second chance

There you go you made a decision.

Yep. Decision made

I feel like the headline should of been ‘Killed by his own cock’.

Prince Phillip’s about to die, surely. It’s going to be hard for them to get people to care much after Captain Sir Tom, the People’s Duke of Edinburgh.

Theyll presumably care more if they get a state funeral and a couple of days off for mourning

The last state funeral was for Churchill in 1965 so I wouldn’t bank on Phillip getting one.
