In the news thread

For some unfathomable reason I felt the urge to dig this up, watch it and then post it here rather than the Youtube thread

This barely even makes sense. That’s what happens when you go off-script.

Skane was literally unbearable. I literally could not do any bearing of him.

Skane was interesting though. He was smart, and he cared deeply about skateboarding. He made interesting points all the time. Nextman also cared about skateboarding.

But never mind that, what’s been in the news these last few days?

Seeing this unfold on twitter is heartbreaking.

It’s a big place, I don’t see why a socially distanced vigil couldn’t have gone ahead. Might’ve been nice if the police had been able to help organise it instead of this.

Yeh I wish they took ownership of the issue and that would help defuse the situation somewhat

FFS, the police here are in the prime position of having zero knowledge of the difference between the spirit and the letter of the law. Fucking morons.

Woah, Kate Middleton went to the band stand earlier yesterday without a mask. No bother from police. Then the police go in later when the plebs have gathered. State of this country.

I dunno. I’ve seen too many anti-lockdown protests get a mild escorting from the police in recent months. This felt antagonistic. With the anti-protesting bill getting a second reading on Monday, this feels very worrying. I can see the police’s extended powers staying post-COVID.

More minor teething troubles. 17% of it was fine, so that’s good.

I could see this happening from the moment arrangements for an official vigil were turned down from the police.
There was always going to be one anyway and the police were always going to be there to break it up /disperse it like any other protest.
How they handled it is very tricky , they’re Fucked if they do something or nothing .
And as always there will be some there who hates and wants to antagonise and make a move on the police to be arrested knowing they have the media there to capture it all.
Same thing happened to my housemates ex who’s a covid nut job who got arrested at a lockdown protest. Suddenly she played the victim and did everything she could to play up to any press cameras whilst 3 officers cuffed her and dragged her away. She parades that vid on YouTube like a Badge .

I’d hate to be a police officer in these times , they’re essentially stopping people from pre covid everyday things .
Just look at the amount of police they sent to mile end the other day. Nuts response but they are the rules.

And there wasn’t exactly a small crown at the vigil last night . That was big and all covid rules out the window like every other protest and gathering we’ve had over the last year that has got a hounding from the public and press for its size.

I really don’t see how it could have gone any other way in these tense times . I don’t like it at all . I don’t want to see it , I don’t want it to happen, it’s all wrong, but this is a common pattern of the last year and I’m not as surprised as others.

I was in central London during the XR protests and I saw some of the arrests being made. On the news it looks like the police going in and just grabbing people. In reality it was very different. If someone was sitting down in he middle of the road a police officer would ask them to move. If they refused they got a couple of officers to squat down and talk to them to try and talk them round. If that didn’t work they’d tell them that they’d be arrested if they didn’t move. If the person was determined to be arrested the negotiators would step back and a team of about half a dozen would lift them and carry them until they were prepared to put their feet down and walk. I can’t say that’s what happened last night, but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. This is a picture I took

Yeah I was at a Criminal Justice Bill march in 1993 and that was completely unrelated too. Won’t waste your time with pictures.
