I think that is the Conservative tactic, by flinging around these allegations it feeds into this idea of ‘they are all as bad as each other, so what’s the point’
Younger generations need to start voting in larger number, because you can be sure that the grey vote will bother (and we all know which way they tend to lean politically).
I’ve been getting back on the Bumble recently, and the amount of profiles I see of actual adults who list their political stance as apolitical is really surprising. How can you be 32 and be apolitical.
Why don’t you want to live an angry, despair filled life???
A lot of people just want to live their lives and not worry about politics. Maybe they’re happier for it.
I can hear in the background that Radio 2 are having a phone in about the Johnson Savile remarks.
Ffs. He’s in number 10 somewhere laughing his head off. It’s so easy.
Mouthbreathers ringing in reading off Facebook posts. Johnson’s job is complete. Morons.
Here it is, the classic ‘they are all as bad as each other, so why bother’

Jimmy Carr: yes or no?
If everyone is going to get their panties in a twist at everything a comedian says then the industry is dead. I bet none of the people annoyed about it would’ve ever watched the show anyway
If you watch that special, most of the jokes in it are bad taste and, quite funny. It’s a comedy show. It’s not meant to be taken literally. All the hysteria just looks like an overreaction imo.
He has a point. He says ‘one day you’ll be able to tell your grandchildren that you watched a man stand up on stage and make light of serious issues. And people laughed. They used to call it ‘jokes.’
I stop listening whenever anyone accuses others of not having “common sense”. It just gives me horrible little Englander ‘we don’t do it like that round here’ vibes.
The things is (and I’ve not watched it, as I’m not a fan) but he will have joked about rape, child abuse or other taboo subjects as well, in there no doubt, knowing Carr… so that is okay but this one joke isn’t? That’s where it stops making sense. Either you get angry about all of it or none. You can’t cherry pick ones that just happen to upset you personally. As it wasn’t aimed at you personally, if any of that makes sense?
Isn’t that a bit black and white? You are allowed differing views on differing issues.
In terms of Carr’s joke, he said the killing of 500,000 gypsy/Roma people during the Holocaust was a ‘positive’. That is flat out bigotry, delivered unironically, and makes for a lazy, unfunny joke. Carr can fuck off.
I don’t remember pointing out the joke was amazing and he’s super funny?
He’s a caustic comedian. Offense is his business.
I was responding to the part where you said people can’t cherry pick their offence. They can and do.
I was using two separate paragraphs to separate the different points I was making. First one was responding to you. Apologies for the confusion.
Not a big fan but don’t hate him either and when we watched it what stood out was that as a joke it was pretty lazy (dead gypsies = good thing) and went for the shock factor. Therefore, offensive if you’re offended by the subject matter and also not that good as a joke either. In different wording you could almost imagine it coming out of Chubby Brown or Bernard Mannings mouth. But I’d let him and others carry on and people can make their minds up. There is a context here, he wasn’t at speakers corner trying to get people to rally behind the Holocaust as a great idea.
He does seem to aim to offend more or less everyone. He’s also been in trouble before for other gypsy jokes: 'The male gypsy moth can smell the female gypsy moth up to seven miles away - and that fact also works if you remove the word moth."
A lot of subjects are going to be traumatic to someone else though? I honestly don’t care for him. Offensive for the sake of it rarely equals funny. It’s like hearing swear words when you’re a kid. Most of us grow out of finding that funny and shocking.
