Injuries and treatment

Same here. I just roll around doing basic stuff until I feel loose and confident, and then I’m ready to push it.

@KeithBeef knows about my warm up routine. It is so epic that I rarely finish it :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I saw a physio last summer due to sciatica which came out of nowhere - 5 minutes into a session and I was done and doing the funny walk of shame back to my car. It took two months to recover and no skating was prescribed all summer. Took a long time to get back. I do get quite a few of these odd cramps and most of the time they’re worst first thing in the morning and when initially stepping on my board, gently ease myself into the session and they mostly go.

Had to ice my knee earlier, it was feeling a little rough, but I expect thats in line with age and I did take a couple of knocks last night.

Google threw at me ‘heat or ice it’ and ‘rest it and continue your normal activities/sports’.
Come on internet, which is it

My shoulder is still fucked. Unsure whether to go hospital

You can wait ages in A&E. If it’s not an emergency right now I’d do an econsult on the GP app. You describe your symptoms and upload a photo if it helps, and then a doctor calls you back either to make an appointment or to give advice.

Yer was at the doctors last week getting carpal tunnel diagnosis. They didn’t seem to give much of shit

I think that’s the new thing…I went in with tennis elbow, had it before years back and resolved by roid injections. This time - see how it goes and come back in x weeks. CBA. It is still really painful…May book an appointment when I get back from holiday.

Yer I’m getting injections in my hands in a few weeks.

Been just over a year since I hurt my foot, getting an mri end of sept to see what’s actually wrong :joy:

At xsite right now and it’s fucking knackering just rolling around, been playing a lot of footy at the mo and running a bit but need to build some skate fitness back up as well. Best way is by skating loads of course but unfortunately that hurts, what else would people suggest?

Swimming? Low impact.

I was playing loads of football and feeling pretty good then took two elbows to back of head start of November playing Sunday League.

Thought it was a mild concussion at first as didn’t get knocked out but still feeling the effects nearly five weeks later. Spoke to doctors the other day and said it’s post concussion syndrome, doing my head in (literally) as sleeps fucked and I just feel sick all day everyday with a banging headache, very annoying!

Got an mri on my ankle in a few weeks thankfully so will finally find out what the fuck I’ve done to that

Swear to god that even when I was still skating a lot people I knew who played 5 a side etc. used to get more banged up than I did.

Ankles are a real problem for a lot of skaters.

I’ve had ligament surgery on one of mine, and one of the staff I talk to at the Selfridges bowl is going in for the same thing in a few weeks.

Despite the surgery, mine still flares up unexpectedly and I end up limping for days. And then it will be fine for a few weeks.

Just got called back to see a cardiac specialist nurse after an ECG I’d had due to my weird low heart rate and just wanting to make sure everything’s okay. He showed me the ECG results and said it was a healthy heartbeat but really is very slow. It should usually be slightly raised from rest when at the doctors undergoing an ECG but even there in the office covered in wires it was only 41 bpm. He did a load more tests and has ordered a 24hr ECG and made a non-urgent referral to a cardiology consultant, out of an abundance of caution he said. He did really stress to not worry as long as there’s no adverse symptoms, keep on running etc. But it’s hard not to worry a bit.

I think I’m maybe a medical curiosity at this point, though. It’s even slow when I’m running but it’s clearly pumping enough blood because I can keep going and feel good, never feel faint or dizzy but it’s just weird to see my heart rate is often 30% lower than what similarly able runners who I know are seeing at the same pace.

Hope all goes well for you.

In jest, maybe you should look into become the next David Blaine?

Is it not as simple as you’re really fit? I know TDF riders have heart rates in the 30’s. Or something structural, like maybe your heart is just bigger and can pump more with fewer beats? At least the experts aren’t worried.

I had to get a battery of tests due to something similar, although mine was accompanied by arrhythmia. Had to wear a 48 hr holter monitor and go for a echocardiagram. Was pretty freaky seeing an ultrasound of your heart in real time. He said I had oversized ventricles which is common in athletes (I do a lot of high-intensity road biking), and thankfully the arrythmia seems to have calmed down a bit as I was worried I might have to have an ablation.

What is your max heart rate out of interest? My resting heart rate can dip into the high 30s when lying down but my max is around 185 (although I don’t like it going up there at my age!).

That’s the thing bothering me slightly, it just never goes very high, maybe into the 150s when I flat out sprint but then also I’m 52 and ageing also reduces max heart rate.

I like to run and go out most days but I’m a long, long way from the training levels of a professional athlete. I think it maybe is just physiology like you say, my brother also has a fairly low heart rate. Good news I guess is that my folks are both still alive and nearly 90.
