Thereās something about guys like Gabbers in their 30s ākilling themselvesā that makes me feel a bit uneasy or something else about the state/level of skateboarding.
It feels a bit fucked choosing to risk becoming permanently disabled, or an early death at that point in life. Not that itās fine at any other age, itās just particularly visible once you hit your fourth decade of lifeā¦ I mean, if you saw a friend letting drugs/alcohol have that a similar effect on them, youād have an interventionā¦ but somehow because itās eeking out a living in professional skateboarding itās ok?

Gabbers may well become a future CTE sufferer, along with Pedro Delfino, Alex Midler etc. Theyāll have made little money from skateboarding, so affording support might become an issue. Quite bleak in many ways.
Being sponsored is a waste of time and youth. Chasing the joy of skateboarding isnāt.

Iām sure Arto has had worries about his brain. Ed T has said on multiple occasions he canāt remember entire events because of head injuries

I really didnāt enjoy watching that, couldnāt get through it. If he was a bit more agile it wouldnāt be so bad.
One of the hardest watches ever. Itās like he knows itās gonna happen so assumes the sack of shit pose and just goes down. Heās awesome but fuck, a few were gruesome.
Maybe I did too, because the whole time I was just thinking how stupid it made the āno helmetsā argument seem.
Sincerely hope itās not the case obviously, but canāt help feel Gabbers has stored up some serious trouble for himself.
