Interview Thread

Was good but I’m not fussed on all the karate talk.
And who the fuck does he talk exactly like.
It’s doing my swede in.

Yes I thought the same thing! Can’t quite pin point it

Owen Wilson possibly?

It’s a little less than Owen but def someone of that vibe.

That was a really good read. Slam city interviews are always quality.

Thanks gang. Very honoured. Jake figured out how to make me sound coherent. He rules.

Always come across as a good guy to me. I remember joining the forum and it was peak Warwick. Looked like a disaster zone so DM’d you :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Oh, god…I’ve been here far longer than that.
I had an account back in 2002 when it was full OG N26.

I’ve sat through Skane, Cubix, Yella Clothing, that whole scat posting spam bit…Warwick wasn’t my first rodeo.

I definitely just sorta backed out a bit about 15 years ago and only posted once a month or something…I had someone shit talking me IRL and they were using everything I posted on the old Sidewalk forum to chat shit. So, I was out for a good while. Just made it easier. But I came back for the last few years of the sidewalk one.

Deffo post more these days than in the 2010s though, so I can see why you’d thing I’m a fresh faced young gun.

I never made any attempt to make a living out of what I actually love (unfortunately) so to read interviews with people who have is really sick. Great interview!

Oh no, wasn’t implying that, I was new on here and messaged you like ‘wtf is going on in here?’

Still stoked you got that clip of me for that Vans (?) edit for Sidewalk, when you came down to Exist a cuppa years back @Londonskater

Was nice to be on the other side of the camera for a change and be a part of that session, just remember Smaustin getting some good stuff that night and having the whole park to ourselves. Tidy, mun.

Will dig into this interview after my unfortunate timing of an all day training session, on a Monday.

Great piece by Mike Munzenrider up at QS exploring the handful of new print publications coming out of the US in recent years with the people behind Closer, Golden Hour, Mess and 2001.

Tough job making a skate mag, I don’t read them much any more. It seems very hard to create impactful ground-breaking photo content. Thrasher seems to be living off its power to immortalise through covers and SOTY.

Last UK image that stood out for me was Mia Companion issue - first trans skater cover? Probably not but as I said I don’t read mags much. Thought that was sick but I still feel like it’s rare for magazines to create impact with their photography.

The demographic of skaters who read mags seems to have shifted too, which seems to lead to more sober, serious written content. I like the Companion intros and I like the SOTY interviews and all that stuff but I miss the era when the mags were growing up with me.

I went from Braille-sequence product reviews and trick tips in Skateboard! to hormonal pubescent Big Brother tour articles in the space of a few years and after then after a few years raving I came back to skating and dvds were as cheap and available as magazines, shortly followed by the internet which was free. Magazines? Why?

Hard to downshift back into mag mode these days.

Love a tour article. Love seeing a crew get together and hit up a load of new spots. I’d rather see that than some dude skating his local.

Also prefer this, since it’s a much more natural recounting of what went down, rather than somebody trying too hard to sound clever.

Hahaha deadest start to an interview ever! “ummm, so I guess, how are you feeling, how’s your leg doing, ummm yeah” :joy:

He’s a good lad, but that’s was a struggle.

What’s the longest anyone has managed to watch this for without skipping ahead and eventually turning it off? I did 8 seconds.
