Nah its not a massive deal generally it’s just a lot of talk in the rock scene. Like it or not, Linkin Park are one of the highest selling rock bands of all time

To summarise -
LP put up a countdown on their YouTube. It counted from 100 hours to zero (got really exciting) and then at zero starting counting back up again. Loads of rumours started swirling about new music, new singer etc.
For a huge band that has been on hiatus for years this was apparently massive.
Finally they dropped the news that they have a new singer, new album, world tour. They live streamed a show introducing the new singer. Most fans were stoked.
Within hours the singer of Mars Volta dropped some information about the new singer being a deep down scientologist and backing up a fellow cult member in court who was convicted of some really messy sexual abuse stuff.
Community went into meltdown etc.

Given how big of a band Linkin Park were, and how big a deal the Danny Masterson trial was in the US, it’s kind of mad that no one from their record label was like, hmm, maybe this might be a bit of a PR disaster, maybe pick a different singer

yeah this topic has become every music blogger’s video this week. i’m not invested enough in the band to give a shit myself, happily never listen to them again but i can see why it’s divided so many of their fans. personally the bigger issue is the amount of misogyny it’s brought out too - “how dare they replace Chester with a woman” “she’s not even a good singer they just gave her the job for equal opportunities” etc. it was a fairly toxic community anyway based on the reddit history and this hasn’t helped.
Chester’s son has come out and slammed the band now too. not a good look really.
my kid is really into them but doesn’t know any of this stuff and i’m happy him not knowing tbh. if he enjoys the music then i don’t mind.

I thought it was a smart move by LP to replace Chester with a female vocalist because then direct comparisons to Chester couldn’t be made.
But they made the mistake of picking a woman involved in the Danny Masterson rape trial. Whoopsie!
Yeah, unfortunately the misogyny would have been there regardless. Which is worrying as most fans of the band must be fully grown adults by now. I have seen a lot of it though - if I see the sentence ‘LP has gone woke’ one more time i’ll scream.
And like me, I’m not a fan of the band either, I’ve just been aware of the trial the past few years from following Cedric, I’m just following it now because you don’t see such major PR disasters these days and this couldn’t possibly have gone worse for them.
yeah 100% agree with all of that. there’s so many comments like “ugh libs will look for a reason to cancel anything”. i swear i bring up the whole separation of art from the artist thing on here on a weekly basis and i apologise for that but for me personally it’s a minefield. i listen to Pantera (well, mostly I play Dimebag riffs) but won’t go and see them live. i think they’re the only act with a horrible past that I would consider myself a fan of still.

I’ve just started listening to it. Might just be the novelty factor but it sounds pretty good to me.
To be fair I only gave it the one go whilst cooking last week. I wanted ‘Mama said’ LL over ‘breathe & stop’ type beats, didn’t get it and didn’t hang around so maybe I should go again…
So much soft focus to hide the old men.

Not sure if abp but this De La / Beatminerz / Pharoahe is pretty good, nice video too…
