Obituary are/were a massive band and pioneers of death metal. Decent band although most of it sounds like it was recorded in the toilet ![]()
In around 91/ 92 a mate made me a really good death metal tape, most of the stuff i like was a result of that
Oh fuck yes Deicide are a mad one
Did your tape have any early Sepultura on it? I think we talked about this here before but Arise was so important to me as a kid
No sepultura but I’ve definitely got time for them
There was some Gwar at the end though for comic relief
Deffo not my kind of thing but that’s decent. Recent video? They look ancient
They are ancient! Still going and touring pretty much constantly
This is the kind of stuff they’re most known for
From Deicide wiki
Most of the controversy surrounded frontman Benton for a rash of shocking interviews and wild statements. Benton has repeatedly branded an inverted cross into his forehead on at least 12 different occasions.[49] During an interview with NME magazine, he shot and killed a squirrel with a pellet gun to prevent any further damage to his electrical system in the attic at the location the interview was held. This act garnered negative attention from critics and some animal rights activists. Benton had professed beliefs in theistic Satanism during Deicide’s early years, claimed to slaughter rodents for fun, and that he held beliefs in demonic possession and that he was possessed.[50] Such statements had eventually been concluded as tongue-in-cheek and little more than sensationalism by band members questioned alternatively.[51] Additionally, Benton claimed in the early 1990s that he would commit suicide at the age of 33 to “mirror” a lifespan opposite that of Jesus Christ. However, he passed that age in 2000 and did not commit suicide
Yeah Glen was a wrongun for sure
New Spectral Wound LP is outstanding and probably going to make them really popular:
123 views in eight years is baffling for this. 2000s German BM, and this whole album is their finest moment:
This whole album is quite varied, for how lo-fi it is, and although the production sounds pretty much the same throughout, it kinda goes from punk to analogue noise:
UK BM from this year. Don’t let the Southern Lord-looking sleeve fool you:
More Blutklinge. This whole EP is oustanding and this is the opener:
You don’t strike me as a black metal guy
I’ll give these a go tomorrow
Pretty tame compared to what those northern europeans got up to
Yeah the Norwegian black metal lot are insane
Napalm Death are the best metal band.
Seen both Cavalera Conspiracy (doing all og Sep stuff) and GBH this year. Both were on fire.
CC gig was especially good. They ripped through Schizophrenia.
GBH was only a short while after Taylor Swift
.
I like some Blood Incantation stuff but that new album was like a bad joke to me. Couldn’t hack it at all.
Anyone for Fudge Tunnel? Always loved ‘em.
Snurp and I went to Mastodon last night, which is a convenient message to post in the metal chat.
I wish I could get into Mastodon. They just don’t do it for me. Love their album covers but the riffs are just meh
I think you put me onto CC touring the UK and I’d missed the gig already. Damn shame. Doesn’t matter which band Max is touring with he’s always great live
Sepultura did a finale tour with Jinjer in support but i missed that. Doubt they’d have played much if the first few albums though
I don’t know what post-Cavalera Sep sound like. Never listened to anything past Roots. Think the bass player’s the only original member now. Doesn’t make them bad necessarily. With so much music to check out though just never got round to it.
Eyehategod are in the UK right now. Wanted to see them in Sheffield, but I’m going to London for Front 242’s last ever UK show.
Will check that Spectral Wound album @buildafire
