Nice

I’ve been dipping in and out of the Villa Park Back to the Beginning show all day.

Just got Metallica, Ozzy and Sabbath to go now.

Gotta say - Guns N Roses set was pretty fucking amazing.
Three Sabbath covers (It’s Alright was played too fast…bit odd) including a very excellent Never Say Die and Juniors Eyes. Axls voice was pretty sick - far better than it fared by the time they got to their two own songs.

Gojira covering Under the Sun/Everyday Comes And Goes was epic.

The Travis Barket / Chad Smith / Danny Carey three drummer cover/play around Symptom of the Universe was pretty insane. Sounded so good and heavy with three drummers.

The whole second supergroup bit with Tom Morello, too. Think it was called the Tom Morello All-Stars with Billy Corgan, Steven Tyler covering Breaking the Law and Walk this Way…Snowblind, Whole Lotta Love…Bark at the Moon.

Slayer were also very, very good.

Basically, everyone plays a couple of their own songs and a Sabbath cover or three…and then theres supergroup or odd stuff in between and it is excellent.

This is in there, too - although sadly not live:

Anyhow..Metallica, Ozzy and Sabbath can wait till tomorrow.

Its 8 hours long and well worth seeking out to watch in chunks.

If you manage to get through the Ozzy set without crying you’ve done well. Zakk is stood super close to Ozzy almost protectively for loads of it. Mama I’m coming home felt super poignant a few weeks ago and I bet it’s even sadder now.

The average age for the final set was above 75 and they killed it

“Mama” was written by Lemmy for Ozzy right?

Oh, I’ve shed a few and no members of Sabbath have appeared yet.
I just watched the Metallica set. I fucking love covers from Never Say Die & Technical Ecstasy. They seem so fitting for all of these 80s metal bands they have here.
Metallica slayed Johnny Blade.
Then they cut to everyone having a photoshoot with Ozzy. More tears shed.

Gonna stick on the final Ozzy and then Sabbath sets tomorrow night.
Cannot wait.

Theres a 100 min version of this coming out in a few months, I think. Will have to check that when it arrives - could be amazing with a proper audio mix.

Someone fell off a balcony or something at Oasis Wembley gig and died.

That’s always been the story. But Ozzy said it’s about him getting sober or dying young. Never been quite sure what was true but it’s certainly a song he felt was important

Rumour has it that there’ll be a full cinema release of the shortened show

Now I’m not here to start an argument, you’re entitled to have your opinion, and yours is equally as important and qualified as mine

But you’re the only person I’ve seen to not say that GnR were comically awful that day. Wow, they were bad. Axl’s voice sounded like someone squeezing a limp balloon, he could barely keep it together. And speaking of together, the rest of the band sounded like they couldn’t hear each other, or they were playing the same song but very badly, and at a different tempo every few seconds.
I don’t want to say “I was there, so I can say they were bad” because obviously anyone can watch it for yourself and make up your own mind, but I was there, they were terrible, and honestly everyone in the crowd around me was either laughing bemusedly at how terrible they were or shouting at them to please stop. Total vibe killers, even more so than the twat from Disturbed.
I can only imagine you were watching it through rose-tinted heavy intoxication or something (which is hopefully why you thought Steven Tyler sang Breaking The Law, when it was Billy Corgan)
However, you’re right about Slayer, what a fucking set. Covering ‘Wicked World’ and sending it into ‘South Of Heaven’ then back into it then straight into a Raining Blood/Angel Of Death medley, showing everyone else how to do it. I knew this would (probably) be the last time I saw them and I was scared they might be a bit old and lazy, but no, they delivered.

@Hadenough genuinely, how much was David Draiman boo’d?

Haha
A lot
I must confess I didn’t really know who he was (I’d heard of Disturbed, but not heard about his bullshit) so I was initially wondering why he was getting booed so much (I thought, I know they were shit but do people really hate ‘Down With The sickness’ that much?)
But then it was explained to me, and I joined in with the rest of the crowd

Never heard of him either. No idea whether I have heard Disturbed, probably have.

On another note I saw that Azealia banks has turned or has always been a complete Michael Fabricant.
kinda ruined 212 which is the only song I know of hers and I like it.

actual lol amazing

i’m glad he got booed. 10/10 dickhead

@notactuallyhere Banks has been a Michael Fabricant forever it seems

Said one bloke to another bloke on a niche interest internet forum.

haha. I’m not even checking what I wrote last night (I was sober), but I do believe I said the cover of It’s Alright was too fast and not good and that the other two songs (Never Say Die and Juniors Eyes, I think) were decent. I think Axls fucked voice lent itself to those tunes as Ozzy began to sound quite different by those albums.

And I think I also said that his voice was shit for GnRs own tunes. Which it was.

Edit: Went to check my own post in the end. I did start with your ‘Guns N Roses set was pretty fucking amazing’ but then pulled apart 3 of the 5 songs as shit right after.
Just lack of clarity on my part. We are not quite internet foe levels, yet.

Oh, he really is.

I think this is lack of clarity again. I was just talking about the Supergroup and members, and in order.
I said “Billy Corgan, Steven Tyler covering Breaking the Law and Walk this Way” when I should have said “Billy Corgan, Steven Tyler covering Breaking the Law and Walk this Way respectively”

Cook, Pass, Babtridge.

Slayer fucking rule. So good. Always (Although better with Lombardo).

Sir
I respectfully withdraw my barbs
Had I scanned your prose for clarity, I would have found myself aligned with your vision
Let it be said, GnR are dogshit, and may the matter be left at that

(Also, I know we don’t really know each other, but I do believe that we were in the same large group of revellers watching Sabbath at Hyde Park, whenever that was, like 2012ish? I was talking loudly about how everything is rubbish with French, Glass and Seth. So technically we are brothers in Metal)

and Jeff. although Gary Holt and Bostaph are really good

Yep, I’ve always just tolerated Bostaph, he’s good but he’s no Lombardo. Especially on the records, he just doesn’t sound right. imo. But I think his performance at this set showed he’s finally good enough to fill those shoes. It took a while, mind.
Gary Holt has always done a fine job sitting in for Jeff though.
Slayer: a great bunch of lads.
