Music thread

I was asked to do a playlist for Syndicate Sound, so I did, and this is it:

Bass Mids Tops by Joe Muggs. I know him and he’s a total nerd so it’s probably well researched

I know that name. Can’t place where from though. Think that one’s about sound system culture more generally, but looks really interesting nonetheless. Thanks for the recommend.

His name’s Joe Mugford. Writes for various music mags. It definitely covers jungle/breakbeat etc…

Wrote for the Wire then went and wrote for the Guardian and stuff.

yeah it is, lots of very very good interviews with some legends. worth a read!

No joke, I’ve genuinely not heard of a single artist in that playlist.

Nearly God is Tricky and Terry Hall. You’ve heard of them.

Haha I’ve not.

I’m going to listen to it.

@hugo

Tricky is a Portishead/Massive Attack-Bristol mid 90s trip hop superhero type…You’ve 100% heard him!

…and I bet you know words to Terry Hall songs…

I think I know 1 massive attack song, the famous one that’s been covered by Florence and the Machine.

Portishead was in a blueprint video so I know one of theirs too.

The specials I know.

You’d know a bunch, I reckon. All those still get a lot of play on the radio…

I’ve only heard about one artist in this playlist and he’s a mate, haha.
Looking forward to listening to this in the car later. Thanks.

Just clocked that Rose Quartz is in there. That was the second song (after Lush Ambulance/AFX) which I edited that Munro part to. Then we decided on that final one a bit further down the line…

Yeah that was good timing. I forgot that was in this.

Wasn’t sure whether to post here or the documentary thread.

Fascinating and inspiring film about improvisation, written and produced by Derek Bailey from 1992.

Wonderful documentary! I was dead surprised about how improv was a fundamental part of some classical compositions. Great to see John Zorn at work, too
