How come you can’t do the gym thing?
Time, money and effort.
First up, nice one for starting off running, keep going with it! If you can, do ANY of these to help you get fitter and stronger -
- Join a boxing or kickboxing gym/club - they’re always cheaper than “normal” gyms, and you’re learning a solid, practical, usable life skill.
- Get a skipping rope and start using it in garden.
- Get a kettlebell and start doing follow-along workouts on YT each morning. Most take between 15 and 25 minutes.
- Get a pull-up bar that hooks over the kitchen door and start using it. Every time you go under it, do 2 or 3 pull-ups and take it from there.
- Find your local park workout/ pull-up bars / monkey bars and start using them - it’s something you can do with your kid and he will think you’re an absolute G for doing all that with him.
I’ve got this one. I’m so bad at it but do need to do this more.
My wife is a physio and she’s given me some awful excercises to do for my guts.
Ive gone from 14st 8lb to 14st 3lbs in 2 weeks. I don’t want to get shredded or anything. Just want to de-wok my belly.
Nice one, cut back on the processed sugar too as much as you can. It makes the biggest difference to your mentality and metabolism. Set yourself a focussed goal to be trimmer or stronger or learn a physical skill or whatever, you’ll find it easier to stick to than vague well-intentioned plans.
Skipping is pretty easy to learn! You can even just sack off the rope it self and hop 3 times on your left foot, then 3 on the right and so on for 5 minutes if you can’t manage the rope. That too works the arms and helps with fitness and fires up all the skate muscles too.
The main thing about exericse is a little and often will always beat over-intensity - imagine if you’re doing pull ups and today you do 10. That’s enough for you and tomorrow you do 10 and each day this week, you do 10, leaving a little left in the tank so you’re not suffering from DOMS the next day. Meanwhile I’m going all out and I do 15 today, which leaves me in bits tomorrow, so I skip my work out and pick it back up in 2 days time, where I rinse and repeat, so I’m gassed the following day. By the end of the week, I’ve done 3 days, 45 in total, whereas you’ve done 10 x 7 days, 70 in total, almost 150% of my score, just by doing a little and often.
Does honey count? Ive been having it on my weetabix. Tried putting a bit of banana on instead today but that was quite minging.
Went for a run at 9.30 tonight actually. Was amazing because the whole town was absolutely silent. Felt like i had the place to myself.
These are my stats for the last 2 weeks. I try and over estimate if i can otherwise I’m just cheating myself.
I know that was a ban worthy post.
Exercise is good - they reckon it’s the one thing more than anything that will make you live longer and stay younger. But in my experience it doesn’t make me lose weight. If I have a really intense skate session I often weigh more the next day. But if I eat less I weigh less.
Noone is going to want to hear this but skateboarding (particulary the kind we do) isnt really exercise so its hardly surprising you’re not losing weight from it. Standing on a deck for 10 minutes to skate for 40 seconds for 2-3 hours is never going to offset a bottle of redwine and sausage rolls
I’m sure you’re right. It’s not like we lift weights or run marathons. It’s probably not the best exercise.
it does get your heart going though - I wear a Fitbit and after a session of about an hour pumping around a bowl it sends my heart rate up from 57 resting to between 160 and 178. Sweat buckets. So that’s got to be doing something, I reckon.
It’s a decent cardio workout if you’re not stopping to chat every ten seconds Ed…
He’s clearly smashing half a bottle of red and a sausage roll between slappys
Exercise definitely makes you lose weight everything else being equal. The trap people can fall into is going for a run or whatever and then having some snack they wouldn’t have otherwise because they deserve it.
Im here for a good time not a long time
Flu has been kicking my arse since Saturday night… slightly better today but still weak and drained. Thank fuck it’s half term.
Same here. Sore throat, stuffy nose, achy muscles… Hopefully feeling better tomorrow.
hope you feeling better soon dude
It’s still a type of sugar, so use less of it anyway.
I wouldn’t put skating anywhere in the same bracket as running, swimming, HIIT, kickboxing, etc. when it comes to cardio. Sure, something is better than nothing, but skating is more like zumba classes for fellas in their 40s.
One other thing to remember is that muscle weighs more and is denser than fat, which is why when people start working out regularly, they can get disappointed they’re gaining weight, despite the hard work and small visual gains.
Thanks pal!
