I’m in the reverse position to Darth (not to make you feel bad), but I’m really struggling to put weight ON.

I’ve been dealing with some gastro/digestive issues the last 2 years which I won’t bore you all with the details of, but the outcome has been I’ve had to completely alter my diet and am now on a very low-carb diet. I’m sort of bordering, unintentionally, on keto.

Ive lost 1.5 stone in the past 12 months, am now down to 10 stone. My aim is to get back up to a solid 10.5 as a baseline but even that is proving difficult. Despite having spoken to a nutritionist I think I’m struggling to get enough calories in.

Makes it difficult as I can’t eat rice or potatoes, and have an intolerance to eggs anyway. Also can’t eat beans or pulses. I’ve reintroduced cheese out of necessity, after not eating it for about 7 years. I limit gluten to only a couple days a week, no refined sugar, minimal fruit, alcohol only twice a week, cook everything fresh.

Presumably I just need to eat like twice as much of what I am eating?

Beef smoothies to the rescue

There was a good article about the stigma surrounding weight loss jabs on the guardian yesterday. Initially my position would be not to consider them but the article made me reassess some of my preconcieved ideas around the morally correct way to lose weight.

We all have different metabolisms and genes, what works for one doesn’t work for all, so maybe worth looking into @darthpunk

Article is here: ‘I lost so much weight, my husband thought I was terminally ill’: why do people lie about taking Ozempic? | Life and style | The Guardian

Oof. A lot ruled out there. I am no nutritionalist so don’t want to throw advice around.

Can you do bananas and chicken? Also nuts. Peanut butter, almonds. Greek yoghurt.

I am basically pre-diabetic after eating so much shit for years (it catches up with you kids) and do lots of stir fries with chicken spinach and nuts and throw in as much veg as I can. Try to go for green stuff but love a red pepper. No rice or noodles and that fills me up so much. Also tofu and tempeh help ramp up the protein and calories.

big lad at work went keto and literally halved himself in a few months.

I had that as I wanted to put some weight on and have never seemed to be able to do it. Just always went back down to 70-72kg. It felt so bizarre eating over the limit of what was comfortable for me but yes, it is literally just eat twice as much as you’re used to. At least that’s what worked for me. Now I’m like 78-79kg but I know if I eat what I normally eat I’ll just lose it all again

Honestly the weight just fell off. Maybe something to look into @darthpunk I hadn’t quite realised before this just how carb heavy my diet was - once I had to remove them, the change was almost immediately noticable.

Mate, I am eating so much chicken. Can’t do peanuts but can do almonds. I’m on coconut yogurt as I hate the idea of yogurt/cream, but I might have to get over that disgust tbh.

It is probably just as simple as I need to eat way more food, to compensate for the lack of carbs

Feeling full as fuck is grim.

I have breakfast at home then have calendar reminders at work to eat 4 meals throughout the workday, then big dinner and snack all evening long. Even when I don’t want to. I have to divide it up and eat constantly because feeling stuffed sucks.

You can get supplements called mass gainers which you can just have as a shake, maybe they do ones that will be compatible with your diet just to pile some calories in

You’re already off to a great start, good work!
Cycling, like long distance running or swimming, is LISS, aka Low Intensity Steady State and is great for general fitness/cardio, but won’t necessarily shift the pounds - you also need HIIT aka High Intensity Interval Training to do that.

Timed exercise circuits, typically 40 sec on, 20 sec off, for 15-30 rounds - that can be anything from bodyweight exercises, calisthenics, mid-weight kettle/dumbbells, sprints, etc. Even 3 mins shadow boxing with 1 kilo weights will burn your shoulders.
Calisthenics (aka low level gynmastics, or even exercises on pull-up bars and gym rings) are also really good as they focus on strength and form - just stay the fuck away from CrossFit btw.
Personal favourites for follow along routines are Pavel Krotov & Daniel PT Fitness on YT

In general, if you’re going to do anything, sets of push-ups, pull-ups and burpees are the all-round best.

As others said earlier, keep an eye on how much processed sugar you’re eating, that’s a major, silent contributor to weight gain.

Fire alarm in a flat opposite my house has been ringing nonstop since 4am. I tried calling the police/fire brigade but they don’t seem to be able to do anything. Fire chief said to wait until batteries die which could be up to 4 days!?!
Going to call the police again if it’s still ringing this afternoon to find out if they managed to contact the owner. Problem is the flat has been recently renovated to rent so it’s empty.
I always thought I loved living in the city because I almost always have. Now I understand the appeal of the country.

I remember breaking into a neighbouring flat to try and take batteries out of an alarm that had been going for days. Turns out it was one hard wired into the mains. Maybe the flat was full of carbon monoxide.

Could try the council on it as well, as it’s a noise issue?

Sounds shit and really annoying.

Maybe light a fire in the property via the letter box, they might come out then. Jokes, don’t do that. Please.

If it keeps ringing for three days…

hahaha cheers mate! Neighbours on holiday or something?

doesn’t your brain just get used to it?
anyway perfect opportunity to turn the tunes up.

I’m definitely porking up a bit since becoming a dad, lack of sleep , eating for energy and less skating and quitting smoking. I want to nip it in the bud but seems v hard to reverse. In my opinion weights are a bit pointless, work outs with your own bodyweight are better, and cardio - running, walking skating

Break in. Fuck it, needs must
