Have Penny, Daewon, Yuto, Creager, Muska, Niall C, Arto, Elissa, Reynolds or BA ever come across as arrogant? Don’t think so. Definitely not to me.

Drawing a blank here? Who is Niall C?

I knew an arrogant Niall N. once.

Forum humour. Niall C is a member of the new (and old) forum and he’s been UKSOTY for like over a decade according to the forum. He’s a top bloke and a really good skateboarder.

Apologies to Niall C.

I watched AGGRODR1FT a few weeks ago basically to clarify that this AI-infused midlife crisis of Harmony Korine’s is as whack as it looks. It is. It’s not even a functional film* and just made me irritated this crap is somehow going to bleed into skateboarding.

*However, I loved this hatchet job in regards to that:

“Korine has said that he was inspired by TikTok and video games, and maybe those who spend more time in those realms will find more to enjoy here. He’s also said that he wasn’t trying to make a movie. Well, he hasn’t.”

All this talk about creating something different to what’s on offer in skateboarding and video games, which is particularly insufferable in this Hypebeast story, seems spoken by someone who has spent no time with either. Like “video games” are used as shorthand for braindead shoot-em-ups or a purely visual medium with no depth, spouted by someone who has no idea that Spirit Quest exists.

Also, from the above article, “If you trace back, Harmony’s been around skate culture his whole life,” from the start of his film career with Kids (1995) and its cast of skate rat amateur actors, all the way to Supreme’s Spring/Summer 2022 line featuring imagery from his directorial debut Gummo (1997)."

Genuine question, what he has done – either at all or remotely of note – with skateboarding between those two examples?

So the new cool skate company is owned and run by a guy nobody has heard about who gets inspired by TikTok and video games? Holy shit. I’m gonna buy a new laptop, save Video Days, EE3 and Welcome to Hell on it and keep it in a safe. Might as well lock myself in said safe. Bye-bye weird world.

He wrote a 2002 film called Ken Park which Larry Clark (again) directed. The central characters were skaters. Mark Gonzales has appeared in his stuff before. Korine’s done more than one Supreme collab.

He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the idea that Korine would want to do a skate brand isn’t outlandish. He has had connections with skating throughout his career. It’s just his vision is, as you highlight, so esoteric and erratic. It’s not always easy to follow.

I don’t like his output.

It’s stinky.

He, (Harmony), did some stuff with Alleged Gallery. That was kind of skate adjacent. He put out some zines and Gonz had some input on those. Also, ‘knocked about a bit’ with Spike Jonze :man_shrugging:

I know, it’s vague, and maybe not,’…of note’, but it’s there.

Felt like that book was everywhere when it came out. Definitely went way beyond nerdy skateboarders.

He currently “knocks about” with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who is rumoured to be an investor in EDGLRD.

Let’s not forget Rupert Murdoch’s son co-founded Rawkus Records.

jeez, fuck EDGLRD. Why the flying fuck did Mike Arnold get involved apart from money.

Is there that much money on offer?

I saw somewhere, (with sod all to back it up, obvs), that their ams are getting paid 4k per month.

4k a month with probably little skating expectation beyond going to chill in Miami while Harmony points some thermal imaging 3d camera at you sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me (minus possible Kushner connection)

It’s not like anyone on the team was producing for their board brands anyway, all we ever saw of them was from non brand affiliated vids/ shoe company stuff

Lets be real this is lasting a couple of years tops anyway and quite up for seeing some mental HK produced skate video as whether its good or bad it will be memorable and unique
