Ha that sounds familiar. Last time I tried I couldn’t even get up a drop kerb.

Go faster.

A bit of pressure on the back truck and then try a whump yourself up and on top of the kerb.

Get yourself some copers… nah, just kidding. Three more pushes and pump into the curb. Weight on, weight off, weight on…

Thanks all, will have a go tonight. This trick has bugged me for ages!

If you can ollie then you can get up a kerb. I think the key for me was really committing to it. You’ll get it. There are quite a few fun tricks without ollies too, like no complys and shuvits, transition too.

The incredible Spin Doctor Steve does…

This would have been great.

Unfortunately, I said screw it and bought a shiny new one as I didn’t want to risk not having one during lockdown

Yeah, what I said, whump it.

Defo best slappy advice just carve at it fast and lean back as much as poss n you’ll bounce up there! Front truck first!

Honest to god, I learnt slappys after having a dream that I could do them. The most literal definition of ‘unlocking’ a trick I’ve ever experienced. (Advice from the guy above also helped.)

For frontside ones it’s all in the carve and especially using your hips to swing into it.
I lean really far on my heels until the trucks make contact and as soon as that happens, that’s when you stand up on it.

I don’t have them totally consistent but that works for me. Super satisfying when you do them (I think partly because they don’t really make sense). Going fast and just thinking/knowing it’s going to happen is a must too. You basically muscle your way through the whole thing, haha.

Thanks everyone, I think I’m closer than I was, need to lean more on my heels I think. I might try backside too as I got closer to them a while back. Some great advice there. I had a good laugh at the whump it advice lol.

Had a good session though, got a frontside 180 then a fakie shuvit for the first time. Skateboarding has been really frustrating as a beginner but I love it.

This happened to me the other day with fakie 5.0s except that I didn’t learn them

Backside is way easier.

Easier overall but harder to learn ‘proper’ slappies though when they’re backside. Frontside you’re forced to get into it via your front truck, backside I find it hard to avoid the temptation to lift the front and pivot into it via the back.

Backside for me freaks me out and frontside feels so normal. Horses for courses .
But the grind sounds soooo fucking satisfying

Maybe just try it on a slightly lower kerb and then just work your way up

Never done one either and I love kerbs. tried a few times in the past but my wheels just don’t leave the ground, I dig in but I just get wheel bite and my wheel nuts get fucked on the side of the kerb.

That sensitive area again?
