If you’re repeatedly getting nut contact, try a pronounced carve towards the curb and imagine you’re going up a tiny trannie. All weight on your toes (if backside) just before you hit, and then unweight it on contact and you should be up there. As others have said, a bit of speed helps.
Back truck first is illegal! Haha
Tried every angle, has to be something else. There are certain tricks my feet will just not work for even though I know exactly what to do, like backside 5 0’s on trans. It’s like having a really disobedient dog.
Fairly sure when I first saw slappies.. (a Ged Wells sequence in RAD mag) ..the back truck was lifted and placed on first.
As with a lot of stuff, I could have misinterpreted. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
That’s what I remember too. I just thought it was a different trick to the slappies I was already doing. There was also Ged doing a nollie, which was a crack nollie and a ‘this thing’ - which I still do to this day…fakie wallride to forwards. Might have been a bone up in there too. Fuzzy memory these days though.
Not as we know them now, but I’m still (fairly) convinced that’s what was captioned.
Won’t argue though.. I’m glad someone else can remember it.
Oh yes. I remember that. These feel good if you get them right. ![]()
Ha! +1.
This tool looks amazing for anyone fitting light switches into drywall ![]()

I’ve wanted one of these ever since I first saw them:
No idea what I’d do with it, mind.
Omg tool boner
2.5k though
Still want/need one
It was captioned as a ‘slappy’ but it wouldn’t be Danny Sargent approved. That technique was handy when zipping through town non stop when hitting up those granite shop step/doorways if you weren’t sure if they’d grind or not - you could almost always get away with it. The technique is also transferable to ‘nollie’ lipslides too. I must admit I do bash in with the back truck first for 5.0’s and salads, but I’d be the first to call myself out on those not being ‘legit’, hehe.
I’ve seen these around plenty but I still can’t understand how it works even with it being explained. I get the whole following a path and referencing so it know’s exactly when to cut but what I don’t understand that it’s basically a plunge router so what’s to stop you wobbling off the path and cutting slightly too far? Or it grabbing on a fun bit of grain and pulling it in. Basically seems like a CNC router but they have figured out how to make your arms the axis.
Back to slappy’s.
Can’t do em. Wish I could.
I actually watched the video on their site instead of relying on people to explain it to me over instagram and it has clicked. The spindle adjusts independently of the base - ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Exactly what I meant. Easier to learn them frontside because you’re more forced to do it proper. You can cheat it backside in a way that’s kinda doing it but not really learning it. You know?

PiledriverWaltz,
Honest to god, I learnt slappys after having a dream that I could do them.
As I’m dropping off to sleep I keep thinking that I have figured out slappy front crooks.. go out and try ‘em..oh, clearly not.
For years I did slappy backside nose grind pop out instead of slappy crookeds because I just couldn’t figure out what was going wrong with the crook grind. I’m not complaining but it was bumming me out that I could do ‘Ollie’ crooked grinds, yet the slappy one eluded me somehow. The falling asleep daydreaming thing sorted me out…finally figured out that I needed to be pushing into the curb to grind the heel side of my front truck, not the toe side. Probably obvious but the penny never dropped. Woke up the next day and hit the curb, rode out of the second one like I’d done them for years. Got both now. Stoked, that visualisation thing really works, (just not for frontside K’s
).
Just had a Covid test. Was recording with a mate on Monday who is being even more careful than me and he just tested positive due to someone at his work. He has only had a little headache. I have had a headache for 2 days so even though it’s not a symptom thought it best. crazy times.
A headache is a symptom. I’ve had one for 4 days. Most cases I’ve heard about, including myself, have been pretty mild so don’t worry if it’s positive.
Yeah, I mean it’s not a symptom deemed worthy for a test so you have to kinda lie to get one. But given the circumstance it’s likely it’ll be positive. I’m not worried particularly but it will mess up things, Work is so busy right now even though we’ll shut to the public.
Somewhat similarly, crooked grinds are one of my favourite tricks but I can’t slappy into them whatsoever.
And then, weirdly, I can do slappy switch crooks pretty consistently but popping into a switch crook? No chance.
The last time I getting close to switch crooks I did that thing where your front wheels land on top of the ledge, instead of your truck locking in, and your feet whip sideways from under you. Hit the corner of the ledge hip first and banged my head on the floor. Still haven’t really shook it even though it was like three years ago. Actually, it happened when I worked in a skate park and shop and hobbling back behind the desk was a pretty telltale sign to my boss that I’d decided to slack off for a bit, haha.
Did someone say slappy FS crook?
