I remember my mum saying ‘this day is for me not for you’ on the morning of my graduation lol. To be fair I wasn’t that arsed and she had paid for my living costs for three years, but she was very highly strung that day god bless her.
Most people will be wearing a smart suit/dress - I think I wore a suit with no tie for mine.
100% this is the way a lot of uni management see universities now.
Currently involved in a marking and assessment boycott to help get better pay and conditions across the sector. Rather than negotiate, university management would rather continue as normal, holding graduations where they give out course completed certificates because they can’t award students a degree classification yet. Graduation is a big money maker for universities.
I’m just finishing a (pointless) Masters, and because of the industrial action (which is fair enough) I’ll be doing the absolute bare minimum for my dissertation, since the bastard might not even get marked, and it’ll be an average score of other work.
Trouble is, someone else might be asked to mark your dissertation instead of your striking supervisor. Cases of PhD students and non-striking staff marking work at other universities.
Also, negotiations between the union and university management are starting up again (potentially).
Anyone in here live in Nottingham? Got a solo exhibition opening tonight at Forth gallery alongside the reopening of Primary and TG. Should be a fun night come say hi and have a can!
Skateboarding hall of fame says Elissa was the first female professional and the first to have a video part in a major video.
Google says that Cara Beth Burnside was the first woman to have a pro shoe, in 94 on Vans, and also the first to have a professional video part, in 1990. But it’s not a street part, so it probably still was Elissa.
Yeah i guess? It’s before my time so don’t know if she had a board on Santa Cruz at the time, but if she did the that would mean Elissa wasn’t the first women pro anyway, so she can’t have had a board.
I’m which case she was Am and that makes it not a pro part?
She wasn’t on Santa Cruz (Risk-it was the Speedwheels team) she was on Powell. I’m fairly sure she didn’t have a pro board but Powell were probably paying her to skate.
