Does that mean you can park right in the middle, careful to not touch any edges?

Surely they could have painted a grid on that space…

What do you lot think is the optimum size & height for a manny pad? Has to fit in a medium sized car, possibly with the back seats down. Angle iron ok on the long edges?

Cheers

Been thinking about building one for myself but haven’t done it yet.
I’d say 15 centimetres high would be ideal for me, 2 metres being a good length but too long to fit in a car. Make it as long as you can and yes, put angle irons on the long edges.

I’ve got one that’s something like 175cm long and 17cm high I think. If I put the passenger seat forwards and angle it right it fits flat in a ford focus boot. It’s about a skateboard length wide which is just about wide enough but isn’t mega comfortable to do flip tricks onto

Cheers, was thinking 6 5" which is pretty much 16cm. My uncle is a chippy and said he’d make one, stoked. He got given a big piece of marine ply recently too

Width of a parking space, height of a supermarket car park kerb, so might have to go on the roof?

This is very pointless, but I heard the Mostly Skateboarding podcast talk about ‘tech formalism’ recently. I’m familiar with the term and the specific bag of tricks associated with it and the guys on the podcast we’re talking about skaters like Wade D and Kalis being major proponents. That got me thinking about one of my all time favourite Kalis tricks, the kickflip wallride on the Picasso sculpture in Chicago. I never thought about it before but that trick actually seems so out of character for someone like Kalis. I know people can do what they like and he could do a no comply Willy grind if he wanted, but it’s only just dawned on me how mad that trick is for a dyed in the wool tech formalist like Kalis. Still if you can break ‘the rules’ and make it look like that…

Kalis is the best. Anyone got a link for that part he put out at a DIY a few years ago?

I can help with this one! I just did this.

I got two lengths from here. You can get it cut to size:

Then you need to get the following:

2mm metal drill bit (or a counterpunch)
4mm metal drill bit
3mm wood drill bit
A metal countersink bit
Drilling oil
4mm wood screws
Screwdriver bits for your drill

Use a counterpunch to mark the hole or use your 2mm drill bit to make a mark and splodge a bit of drilling oil on it. If you use the 2mm drill bit, set the drill to the slowest speed, squeeze the trigger slowly and apply as much pressure as your bit can take. It should start to scoop the metal out in nice long curls.

Add more oil to the bit if you need to reset. Go a bit faster when you feel your about to get through.

Then use your 4mm bit and do the exact same thing on the little hole you made. For metal you need to go for hard downward pressure and go as slow as possible. Keep checking the heat of your bit. It should stay cool if you go slow but will go nuclear hot if you go to fast and blunt the top.

Then you need to use your countersink bit. Use oil on this and a bit more speed on the drill. Use a screw to check how far you need to go down.

Then line it up, drill your 3mm pilot hole into your wood.

Then check your screw head. If it says PZ on the box use a PZ screwdriver bit. They are not the same as phillips head.

Just go nice and steady with the speed so you don’t melt the screw head if your pilot hole isn’t deep enough.

@Chopper can check my work because I’ve done this from memory. I’m pretty sure those are the sizes I used for my box though.

Good luck!

Mine looks like this:

It grinds really nice but it does shred your board a bit.

Is it getting shredded because the angle iron is too sharp? I would deffo get some kind of radius on there with an angle grinder or router or something. Will save your shins too if the block is any higher

Probably but i don’t know how to do those things you mentioned. I don’t want to fuck it up at this stage.

The angle edge being a sharp edge, easily sorted with a metal file to give it a rounder edge and less cutting into your deck .

With a metal file taking off the sharp edge I doubt you could do anything but make it better/safer Les

But won’t the grinding edge get all lumpy and uneven? I’ll try it but I’m nervous about it.

It’s also 4.8 meters in total. That’s going to take ages.

Not much chance of that , even with an angle grinder it’s hard to take notches out unless you hold it in one spot for ages .

Is this the one? Tried to pick a favourite trick in the part but fuck it, I pick all of them.

The worst notches you can make with an angle grinder will be on par with the ones you’ll make with your trucks

Like chopper says, it will be difficult not to make it better

Thanks for the info :+1:
Uncle didn’t understand what it’s for so I sent him a link to New World Order. Probably even more confused now

Yes this is exactly it thank you! Made my Tuesday!

Re manual pad, is 3 x 5 ft too small? Or ok. Much bigger than that won’t fit in the car. Obviously bigger would be better but is it usable?
