I’m sat outside my caravan in the sun and it is so hot I’m literally dripping with sweat. Summer is finally here.
Getting the train to the Malvern hills in a bit, hopefully clear my head. Packed coffee, climbing shoes and an OS map for the bike ride back.
Reminds me of a story an irish fellow I used to work with told me. He had a friend that died suddenly, car accident or some sort. They’re all at the house, residing on the souther Ireland side of the border, but very close to the border. Coffins all laid out in the front room, everyone being polite. Next thing a bunch of guys in camo jackets and balaclavas come in, pick up the coffin and take charge from there. Had no idea about the guys, erm, “political leanings” one bit, he was just a mate who enjoyed playing football and a pint
I hope they were in some sort of formal balaclavas otherwise that is quite inappropriate
When my son was in a uni shared house this other guy there was a massive twat and would write ‘cow rape juice’ on their milk and ‘rape block’ on their butter. One of them. Anyhoo turns out he was one of the fellas that pasted Wallace and gromit on the painting of King Charles. Nice to be connected to a celebrity.
Brewdog are lurking, taking notes.
pointless topic… alr what should I bring up…hm… what kind of music y’all into?
Rap music preferably east coast 90-95
Sonic youth
Classical music - I went to carmina Burana last weekend
I feel like in my old age I’m starting to settle for just about anything although I heard the latest Billie rikishi song on the radio and It sounds like she sampled a factory basic ringtone for it which is kind of wack in my opinion.
“Your Ghost” by Kristin Hersh is a hauntingly beautiful song that effortlessly captures the essence of raw emotion and introspection. Released in 1994 on her debut solo album “Hips and Makers,” this track stands out for its minimalist arrangement and deeply evocative lyrics. The collaboration with Michael Stipe of R.E.M., whose backing vocals add a layer of haunting harmony, amplifies the song’s ethereal quality.
The song’s sparse instrumentation, primarily driven by Hersh’s delicate acoustic guitar, allows her poignant lyrics to shine. The chorus, with its repetitive and almost chant-like “I’m still your ghost,” creates an intimate, almost spectral atmosphere that resonates deeply with listeners. Hersh’s vocal delivery is both fragile and powerful, embodying a sense of vulnerability and strength that is compelling and relatable.
“Your Ghost” has a timeless quality that continues to captivate audiences. It’s a perfect example of Hersh’s ability to blend poetic lyricism with minimalist musicality, creating a piece that is both introspective and universally resonant. Whether you’re drawn to its emotional depth, its haunting melodies, or the unique blend of voices between Hersh and Stipe, “Your Ghost” is a song that lingers long after the final note fades.
Yeah odd!
There was a local issue around here but made national news and was a big thing where there was continual protests at a testing farm that used guinea pigs. It got heated all the time but I met, through work one of the guys who was involved in the scandal where a group of activists exumed the body of a relative of the family who owned the farm and held it ransom.
Awful shit and while the guy was nice and I was forced to meet with him a few times about jobs it obviously didn’t sit right because he had this insane militant interior.
haha yeah definitely Rap that’s gotta be my top. but not really the new stuff cuz all they talk about is their money and drugs
Another one I like is alternative rock and indie…that’s gotta be the best genre combo
Yeah almost all new rap gets a hard pass from me but there are still some gems out there.
Someone here put me on to the take it personal radio podcast and they only ever play classic bangers then do a good mix of current stuff that’s actually good. Check it out.
Yeah I’ll make sure to take a look at it. Thanks!
Personally the A list rappers I’ll listen to will have to be J.cole, and this underrated dude named Aaron May. They sound the same on some songs.
And my East Coast rapper have definitely gotta be Biggie, Wu-tang clan, 50 cent, Mobb Deep, A Tribe Called quest, and a lot more to be honest.
Most recent Danger Mouse / Black Thought album ‘Cheat Codes’ is nice.
Your Old Droog is a recent rapper who I’ve listened to a bit.
Yeah I’ve heard Nightmares and Dreams
Nutty Bars! I’m well behind, he’s been going at least a decade so not really ‘recent’
