Took my kids to soft play and all the other parents were young…millennial kids that had bred. Granted my two are a bit older and on the old side for soft play, it was a bit weird. Might be the last time…
We got in trouble for pretending it was ‘Alkai’ many moons ago.
Piss poor satire levels really but [/shrugetc]
This made me think about how there’s always a “last time” we do something and we’re never aware while we’re doing it. Like, there was a time in my life at school where I was handling a rugby ball probably twice a week, but once I got to Yr11 that stopped and I don’t think I’ve touched one since.
Think back to the day when we all last skated and picture that being the last time. I have thought about that quite a bit over the years specifically tricks. There will never be another time i’ll get that feeling of catching a kicklfip down something of height. Used to be my favourite feeling ever, when it snaps up to your feet perfectly and you brain switches off all the overiding bail triggers and autopilot just lands it perfectly and like it was nothing.
Last few times I really tried to skate it ended in injury or frustration which sucks but I’ve moved on.
I don’t have to think too hard about that one
I had a dream a while ago where my board ended up fully focused over both trucks. Think it was a premonition that my skating days are numbered. But then again look at gonz and hawk, there’s still hope
The most common example people share of this seems to be those friendship groups you’d make from just going out and playing in the streets as a kid, you almost never see kids do that now but I remember slowly realising is wasn’t going to be a thing I’d do past a certain age but then luckily skateboarding took over!
It’s sad to think of that last day though.
ahha, its all fun & games until someone loses a Lakai
No idea where to post this? Currently sat studying contemporary research with children and young people. On the tropic of ethnographic research designs, the book suggested this study.
Intrinsic Motivation and Flow in Skateboarding: An Ethnographic Study
Abstract
Intrinsic motivation was examined in a spontaneous and natural context by observing and interviewing skateboarders as they engaged in their sport. At the same time, the flow phenomenon and its relationship to intrinsic motivation was explored. Data were collected from twenty skateboarders. Results indicated being intrinsically motivated can be a rich, subjective experience characterized by a sense of freedom, euphoria and efficacy, challenge and satisfaction. Likewise, flow is a rich, subjective experience characterized by peak performance, heightened concentration, positive affect, and transcendence. Love the cameos, love the ad, dislike magenta!
We always play that game! I’ve only been caught out once and it was with a vert skater. Can’t remember who though. Dom Henry is an expert at the game!
Oh man I’d love to have a pint or two with you, I think I’d be alright at that game too.
