Feels like anyone expecting to be paid by Mike Carrol on time in 2024 deserves to be scammed at least a little bit

I thought the board companies were word of mouth but shoes were contracted. It was in the MC Jenkem article 10 years ago or whenever MJ bailed

The MJ drama was adidas not giving a fuck about Lakai and announcing him before Lakai could off load his old stock on to shops for them to deal with when it all came out.

Pretty hilarious in hindsight.

It’s a shame that ultimately all led to MJ not even skating or at least being able to film anything and put it out there. He’s probably one of my favourites to do it.

His adidas shoes were fairly uninspiring too, I expected something pretty cool.

Retirement money innit. Probably felt he was unable to do it to the level he wanted and Adidas were still paying Buzenitz and he would be safe there for at least a few years with a decent paycheck.

He didn’t actually produce anything while on adidas though, compared to Daewon who got on at the same time (anyone remember that awkward apology intro video) and who’s still on. I love MJs skating, he’s my all time favourite, but it did seem like Carrol kicking him off Chocolate pushed him over the edge and he just let his career fade away (like you say, with the benefit of a couple years of adidas money).

Wonder if he still cares about skating. I hope he does.

My favourite MJ was Emerica/Maple MJ

Agree! That includes NC Clothing Tiltmode! skating to Yo La Tengo MJ, right?

Although fully flared/hot chocolate MJ was on another level.

Black shoes, khakis, plain white tee.

Non-acceptance-of-receeding-hairline MJis peak MJ

First ever 411vm I bought was the one with his profile:

Kind of but Mj’s argument was that they’d reneged on an agreement re pay cuts which was possible because there were no contracts iirc. Either way - hard to care about millionaires crying about money

Entertaining to re-read this. All boils down to MJ lying to MC’s face about an announcement of him joining Adidas at a video premiere.

Then MC kicks MJ of Choc mid-interview :joy:

I think there’s a lot more to this which is why MC co-opted Jenkem’s thirst for tabloid scandal to insure the narrative was always read in a pro Crail way.

Also somewhat ironic given that the Girl origin story is based around financial irregularities/lack of pay re wheel invoices whilst they all skated for World too

Sorry for multi-posting just having dinner.

That whole MC/MJ thing is pretty horrible looked at retrospectively.

MJ is/was clearly an insufferable knobhead with heavy addiction issues and must’ve been hard to deal with but think about the mental health implications of that Jenkem interview from an employer/employee perspective. Absolutely appalling dereliction of care really.

With all this said - who cares.

We do Anon. We do!

I should have posted with an *according to MC

Fighting MJs corner 8 years later because I’m a Stan, but pretty poor of Jenkem to not interview MJ and get his side of the story at the time. Definitely a bit of spin going on.

Also surely adidas would’ve had more say in when/how they announce their new rider, if anything Carrol should’ve beefed with them.

Also kind of funny that a guy called Marc is now instrumental in Lakais downfall

And help from non-skaters…

Go on…

Was going to mention that.

I think MJ had a weird diatribe soapbox article criticizing big brands without naming them that got pulled. It’s credited in my book you have a copy of :kissing_heart:

Anyway, regarding Crailtap dodgy dealings, chico divulges on his experiences and ultimately quitting the camp in his nine club or bob shirt interview. MJ isn’t a lone victim.
