Re conspiracy theories, conspiracy just means secret plan by a group to do something unlawful. They do happen all the time. As soon as they are uncovered they become a scandal. The post office scandal was a conspiracy for example.
The problem is the theory bit when people jump to wild conclusions. I do think its sometimes used as a tag to discredit some situations which may well be cause for investigation

Yeah, but most conspiracy theories people seem to like are just such obvious bollocks to anyone with half a brain. Usually ridiculously far fetched and requiring the unwavering collusion of hundreds if not thousands of people.

I wasn’t suggesting you did, nor was I questioning the undeniable reality of conspiracies to defraud/denude/deactivate the common man.
With that said, I work with the precariat who are the ultimate targets and victims of a lot of this ‘wake up sheeple’ Meta conspiracy narrative. Lots of them ended up in jail last summer due to incendiary lies posted by paid agent provocateurs (particularly this Finnish one) on compromised platforms like Telegram and Facebook. It’s fine for middle class people and the ruling class to spout this stuff and claim to be ‘for the people/for truth’ because they’re immunised against the consequences of acting on this deliberately distorted bullshit, unlike the poor, who are mobilised for chaos and then end up in jail/jobless/hopeless.
There is only one war, class war: anyone pushing anything else is a liar at best and complicit at worst.

It gets even more sinister the more you read into it. The same people telling you that ‘trans kids/gays/women/brown people are destroying democracy or whatever’ are the ones who hope you don’t find out that the admin of the Telegram channel funnelling fake details onto Facebook that started riots across the UK is half Swedish/half African.
There’s a conspiracy for you.
Here’s another one. Telegram, like TikTok and Meta (etc) are controlled by State govts. Yet apparently you can research the ‘truth’ there and appoint yourself as enlightened.
