Shoes

Had a hook up board around 07 man that board was nice

Never had the shoes though
Were they not that great?
They don’t look bad but definitely look kinda discount ish

Were they not just rebranded Etnies?

@h_palmer627 ’’ Were they not just rebranded Etnies?’

In the mid 90’s I think Hook-Ups shoes were their own thing but the later re-release was through Etnies afaik.

I’ve been working with them since 2019 and it has never been under etnies since I’ve been there.

That said, the etnies shoe designer is really good mates with Jeremy Klien, so maybe he designed them?

I don’t know if the shoes were technically any good or not* but aesthetically they weren’t appealing to me.

I did have a Hook Ups Dream Girl tee in the early 90’s and I thought it was the shit at the time but that’s the only Hook Ups product I’ve owned. It’s one thing rocking Hook-Ups stuff when you’re a kid, (or early 20’s in my case with the Tee ), but as a grown man you’re just gonna look like a weeboo sex pest.

Absolutely not a reputable source, and you’re more likely to know but…

‘’10) HOOKUPS SHOES:

Hookups had a chance to make shoes, but their Footwear team consisted of just two riders - JK and Heath. When asked why they didn’t have more riders on their team, JK said that they had Heath Kirchart and that was all they needed. In a Ride Channel interview, JK mentioned that they sold a lot of shoes in the mid-90s. However, in the end, Blitz couldn’t afford to continue producing the shoes. It cost them around a million dollars for a single run of shoes. Recently, HookUps shoes made a comeback with Etnies as their partner.‘’

He did something with Etnies later but the first shoes were through Blitz Distribution. I always thought the first ‘Red Eye’ model looked just like the Duffs ‘Dukes’ shoes.

As above haha, damn my slow fingers.

The Hookups Marana was in 2015.

Idk but weren’t Dukes kind of associated with Plan B and Duffs with World? :man_shrugging:

Agree that the HookUps Red Eyes and the Jeremy Wray Dukes looked very similar. Though not as similar, see exactly the same, as Sketchers…

Dukes were Jeremy Wray’s thing under Plan B, and DuFFS were Rocco’s.

I was on a trip recently and one of the younger ams showed up with a crew neck they found in a charity shop.

Massive OG Duffs logo piece.

They are 17 and had not one clue it was a skate brand, nevermind a footwear brand.

We let her keep it on while filming and shooting photos.
Fuck it. Will be kinda nice to have that throwback in the clips…

World/Plan B same thing back then right?

But Rocco co-owned Plan B, Duffs, and Dukes.

Yeah they were under the World umbrella at that point weren’t they. Although they still seemed kind of a separate entity to me. Blind, World and Menace, (and Prime ) all lumped together and Plan B doing their own thing with the exception of the bLind footage dump section in Virtual Reality. After Virtual I don’t think a gave Plan B a second thought.

Ternasky started Plan B with Rocco, I don’t know exactly what happened or when it slipped out of his empire or whatever. Maybe Dukes was the start of it? No idea.

I loved Virtual Reality, but Second Hand Smoke was a big one for me too. I remember that coming out, mind blowing. After that I wasnt so hyped on them though.

Who was that?

Dukes ads ran in the Plan B pages of mags, Duffs were always in the World pages. But right enough, same umbrella at the time.

Just checked looks like Dukes was launched in 95 which is one year after Second Hand Smoke.

I know Second Hand Smoke was the last World era Plan B vid after the Girl split. Rocco says Plan B left his family of companies to do their own thing around that time.

Jeremy was wearing Duffs Cobnobblers in Second Hand Smoke. The white and black ones in his famous opening line are pretty iconic.

I guess Dukes was founded right after the split?

Everyone wanted duffs cobknobblers

Everyone skated the duffs cobknobblers

Everyone realised how shit they were
