Yeah the 1010 wasn’t his pro model, in the sense that he didn’t have any input on the design, it was just a shoe New Balance had already designed and was ready for release when he joined.
They gave it to him but he wanted to do something more similar to an older DC shoe.
That’s almost verbatim how it was explained by Jeff and Seb from NB. Everyone thinks Tiago designed the1010 but it was finished before they signed him.
Personally me buying the 1010s had nothing to do with Tiago’s name being on them (although I’m a massive fan of his skating). I’d have bought them even if they were a generic team shoe, just because they’re dope. Thinking about, I’ve never bought a shoe because of the pro who endorsed it, but I’ve definitely been put off a few shoes that I like where it’s a pro shoe for someone it think it wack.
And for what’s its worth, I’ve tried so hard to like that Reynolds shoe but it just doesn’t look right to me. Just looks like a wired take off of a DC Lynx to me. If by some wired twist of fait he’d ended up with the 1010 I think people would be losing their shit over it.
He did mention the Lynx in that video so it’s not surprising, they’ve always reminded me of the Nike Project BA and that seemed to be a Marmite kind of shoe so maybe this will also divide opinion.
