When I lived in the UK, my partner worked in John Lewis, so we both got a discount card for Waitrose, which I think was 20%. The best part was that when applied to a multi-buy deal, like 3 beers for ÂŁ5, the 20% came off the original total, so ÂŁ7.50 or whatever = ÂŁ1.50. That was then taken off the ÂŁ5 total, so it was 3 beers for ÂŁ3.50. The discount was phenomenal for us at the time, meant a lot for us in some tight situations. It was also good for electronics and whatnot, which meant I got a huge discount on a Macbook Pro and iPad a few years ago, on which I could also claim the VAT back, which worked out to -35% off the ticket price.

They seemed like a good bunch to work for and looked after their staff well.

Similar to when I worked at the big M&S in Manchester, staff shop was 75% off all perishable goods at the end of the day. For a tenner I’d be going home with 3 or 4 bags full of steak, lobster, chicken all-sorts we ate like kings.

Yeah Ned DM me deets

The Waitrose staff seem genuinely happy to be working there. I always used to chat to them every time I was in there. I treated the place like the village store. They were allowed to discount to regular customers, so I’d often get money off or a freebie. John Lewis do seem to be good to their staff* and are careful about where their products come from, so I was pleased to be giving them my cash. I intentionally live a pretty simple life and as a result don’t have huge outgoing bills. If you’re going to spend a bit more than absolutely necessary on something then spending on quality food doesn’t seem like a waste at all.

*holiday access to amazing places to stay is a great perk - Brownsea Castle on Brownsea Island for example. Winner.

I asked the nice girl on the checkout about the Christmas pud and she apologised and said sorry, totally sold out. I jokingly asked if they had had any damaged ones or any fallen down the back of the sofa and she said ‘oh no problem I can get someone to check for you’ which I thought was very nice but highly unecessary due to the rammedness of the store.
In Aldi when youre being served they completely ignore you and chat amongst themselves on these connected headsets they all have. Apart from the over friendly Spanish guy.

Although they’re a bit fucked now.

This is Roy Keane’s,

If it’s on a fiver it’ll be the head of the Bank of England.
Or maybe Florence nightingale.

Ate shit, thought I had broken some bones or done something serious for 5 seconds, had a cuppa, got back on my board, learnt a trick, did it 3 times, talked about ledge tricks like nerds with one of my childhood heroes. Skateboarding is so great.
